How Many Blogs Do You Follow?

Photo via En Pointe Photography.  I follow this blog because I'm not only friends with the blogger but also because I love how she can photograph food (and everything else) so well.  She also posts once a day!

Looking at my Dashboard I realize I follow a lot of blogs.  I mean, it's a little excessive but I need to because of my personality. I'm kind of addicted to news and just knowing that all I have to do is scroll through the list on my Dashboard and click through new blog posts is calming to me.  Staying connected to the world is part of my 'mental therapy' that I do daily.

I also realize there are some great blogs out there with just a few followers.  In fact, they often get three times more comments per posts than they have followers.  And the reverse is true that some people have way more followers than commenters (Black Eiffel comes to mind).  It makes me wonder, what compels people to follow blogs or not follow blogs?  Leave comments or not comment?

So, how many blogs do you follow?  And what makes you want to follow a blog?  Are you following my blog?

Tiffany - all very good questions! I often wonder the same thing. I follow more blogs than I have followers, but I only check and comment on a handful of blogs regularly. I feel that I can be better friends with a smaller circle of bloggers that way, plus, there is only so much time in the day. But I suppose it varies for everyone, and people may have a different reasons for blogging. I am curious to hear from others!

I seriously have no idea. I try to check, follow and comment on as many blogs as I can. Good questions, really.

I mostly just keep track of people I know and like. There's not a one that I don't know personally. I just check the side of my blog for when they've updated. I'm still trying to figure out the secret to getting comments. I have a good number of people I know follow my blog, but I wouldn't know it because they never comment!

I follow way too many blogs! However, I like alot of different things and the main thing that will draw me to follow someone is if I like the person and their writing. Doesn't really matter what the topic is...

I'm a follower and I love your blog!
I also really appreciate the comments you've left on my last few posts! All very helpful!

i have often wondered the same thing. some blogs have fewer followers who are very loyal...and others not so many comments at all. weird.
i think my comments are pretty proportional to what i leave on other blogs. i really enjoy my followers/commenters...like you!

I read too many blogs. Right now, I have 286 subscriptions in my Google Reader (I totally just freaked out when I saw that number) -- and that was after I deleted a few. I think that number is one of the reasons I've felt so overwhelmed lately. I need to cut down. I'm sure I could. I am so NOT giving up my subscription to your feed though. I like you. And I like your blog. And I agree with Jayni -- I think it's more important to cultivate good relationships with a few awesome bloggers that you feel a connection to than try to please everyone.

Brandi said it well~ slowly & surely we build certain relationships with like-minded bloggers out there!
I try not to think too much about this & just continue to share our creativity through blogging...above all have FUN ~shall we*

I'm the same as Hilary---I don't officially "follow" many blogs---I think two. But they were the firsts to "follow" me, so I was sort of obligated. But I don't see the point since all the blogs I'm truly interested in are on my side bar thingys and I can see right there if they've updated or not.
Sometimes I don't comment because I always write too much and I think it's rude of me to waste so much space when I don't really have anything important to say and I don't want to take up anyone's time reading a bunch of jibberish that no one wants to read anyway. And sometimes I have nothing to say at all.

I wondered all of these very same things when I first started blogging. After some time it started to become clear. For me personally, the bigger blogs I browse maybe once/twice/three times a week and get beautiful images of inspiration. Blogs I regularly comment on are blogs I really like, check everyday, and feel like I've gotten to know the blogger! It's nice knowing when you comment its being read and not just going into some dark whole in blogger world, read? not read? You'll never know!

I don't really follow a blog...I just exchange links with people unless they constantly comment on my blog and we kind of become blogger buddies. Other than that, I just glance at my bloglist for new entries that interest me.

PS I would love it if you dropped by my new blog!! <3

I follow over 100 blogs. I will determine whether I want to follow a blog based on content, how frequently the person posts, and how much inspiration I take away from it. I am now.

I have had people tell me that they were too intimidated to comment at first. Many followers are shy and simply feel uncomfortable commenting - but they're there, and they are fans, and that's all that counts, I think. :)

These are really great comments. I love building relationships with other blogs I enjoy, usually through comments.

I follow lots of blogs. I get behind though and can't check daily due to my litte boys who need me more than my blog. With google reader it's too easy to read a blog and not even go to the page to leave a comment. although I try and make a rule, if I read it, I'll comment. also, I am trying to build up my blog so it seems a good way to. PS. I am now following your blog. thanks for stopping by mine.

The blogs I follow are in the 100's. It's shameful, really. I used to be meticulous about it and then I just gave in. It's a passion/obsession/compulsion, I guess.

What compells me to follow blogs are if they fall into my realm of personal interest, namely writing, authorship, poetry, art. I also like fashion, crafting and food blogs, but visit those much less often. A mama only has so much time, right? :)

sometimes when i think abou all of the blogs out there i feel overwhelmed. there's just SO much! i think following all the blogs worth following would be a full time job. i'm talking weekends, holidays, and an impressive health package. can we PLEASE have a tea party with dainty eatibles and vintage china?!

I just found your blog so, hello! :) I had to laugh when I saw this -- I deleted a ton recently that I just didn't read but I'm still up around 260. I have to say though that I regularly read maybe 10 of them and the rest is title skimming for something that strikes my fancy (a good title does matter!) I'm a blogger too so part of my "job" is reading other blogs. As a mom, blogger, and dancer, I have to keep blog reading where is belongs priority-wise. My google reader is a necessity for organizing things.

Anyway, happy to find you! Love the pics and keep up the great work!
