Reader PSA: Take an Adult Ballet Class

Audrey Hepburn loved her ballet classes.

I feel a need to expound the virtues of adult ballet classes.

Better posture.  You will feel confident in your swim suits, class presentations, and when you ask for that promotion.

More flexibility.  Did you know that tight muscles equate to weakened muscles?  Be strong!

Bring out your inner graceful ballerina.  We all have one needing to get out and love life.

Miss Hepburn, enjoying her great posture, strong muscles, and love of life.  image

For all you secret ballerinas needing to get out look up local studios and sign up for an adult ballet class.  Reap its benefits and discover the pure joy that comes from dance.

"Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance. Great dancers are great not because of their technique, they are great because of their passion."
-Martha Graham

Ooh, I love everything about this post.
What a gorgeous picture of Audrey (and how lively and passionate she looked in Funny Face! :)

I so want to take an adult ballet class now!! Definitely going to be signing up when I'm more settled for one...

And I love that quote, too. It can be intimidating to dance when there are so many great dancers out there, but this quote is good to remember :)

(See? Loved everything about this post!!! :)

Hm, not sure I could still pull off a leotard. Scary thought! But if I had the money, it would still be great fun.

i think those that get up and dance get more out of life! i am not a good dancer, but i shouldn't let that deter me!

Oh sigh for Audrey. I've never taken dance or ballet (thanks a lot Mom), but I should, shouldn't I :)

Loving the idea! Probably can't come up with much grace, but all the more passion.

I love this post and have to agree! My old roommate and I took a beginner's ballet class and loved it! We came back feeling so refreshed and rejuvenated and it was the most basic entry level class. This inspires me to take another class..

Ergh, I should really take up ballet classes (I'm so paranoid about my ever-prevalent hunchback its not even funny!), but I have the co-ordination of a duck. I think I'll stick to my yoga for the time being!

I so wish I could take a dance class. I never did. I was always a volleyball player growing up. I'd love to do something that makes me flexible and in shape not bulging leg muscle crazy like I was. Plus I just think it'd be a great release.

I could so use that extra flexibility! They have a beginners and an intermediate ballet class at my school. I don't think I'm a beginner in terms of knowledge but I may be at this point given my flexibility. I'll have to email the teacher and ask. Thanks for doing this post, Tiffany. You're so wonderfully encouraging.

I adore Audrey Hepburn. I always wanted to take ballet classes but it never happened. I could use the help with the posture.

to tell you the truth this has always been on my mind. I was a ballerina when young and would just love to get back to it... for all your reasons. you just gave me a shot of encouragement ;)

Oh, you don't have to sell me on adult ballet classes. I've wanted to sign up for one for ages; I really need to make time to actually do so!

And in regards to game show theme songs...you could not be more right. My favorite one to dance to is "The Price Is Right." There's something so enticing about the "doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo do do do..." that makes me want to get up and move! :)

What are the modern alternatives to leotards and tights? (I'm not too anxious to get into those right now.)

I am telling you this is all worth it if it gives better posture! It is STILL the one thing I am CONSTANTLY trying to work on. Definitely trying to get back into more calming exercise like yoga and pilates for this reason.

i miss dance! i used to take jazz and tap. this post has inspired me to look for my dance shoes and find an adult class to take. dance is always a fun workout!

Do it!!! I love my adult ballet class, such an antidote to working life. For a few hours a week I get to go and dance and forget my real life: it really is the only 'exercise' (I put that in inverted commas because I don't do it for exercise purposes) that I enjoy and it has the wonderful benefits of being really quite meditative. You don't have time to think about the bad things when you're concentrating on turn out, posture, pulling up that supporting leg, watching your arms don't go too far back...

I completely support dancing branflake's advice! Do adult ballet. I've just booked myself onto a summer school for adults and I can't wait!
