Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz.  This city holds a special place in my heart.  As a kid, the cousins would get to spend a week in a beach house perched along a twisty and hilly road.  It was constant play as our parents... well, I have no clue where they were.  All my memories are with just us six wildly happy kids doing what kids do best: living.  Our activities included:

~Roasting marshmallows in a pit on the beach and eating smore's with sticky fingers.
~ Playing poker with actual grown up poker chips until 5 AM.  I won, only because everyone else was so tired.
~ The beach house had bumper pool right next to the family room.  Oh, mighty intense games were played on that table!
~ Watching the sunset while wiggling our toes in the sand and then unexpectedly seeing countless dolphins jumping in and out of the waves.  They played for hours and it is one of the highlights of my life.
~ Body surfing in the cool water, secretly hoping the dolphins would come back and swim with me.  A little relieved when they didn't because I think I would have freaked out.

As an adult, I would love to do all these things again.  This summer I can't wait to get back to the beach be a kid again.  And I will for sure get me some jumping pics on the beach.

Who else is going to the beach this Summer?  Anyone love Santa Cruz as much as me?  Anyone miss childhood as much as me?

Santa Cruz is special to my family too. My mom grew up 15min away so that area was her stomping ground as a young single adult. She always has a story and when we drive around SC, she'll point at houses and say, "I dated a guy that lived there!" or "My friend lived there."

I'm totally beachin' it this summer. One of my favorites is Rio del Mar, just south of SC.

I definitely miss childhood sometimes! It's great to see life unfold now that we're older to create our life visions, but wow childhood is just too amazing. I love how summer vacations when you were young felt like eternity...

I was just talking about going back to Cali the other day with hubs. Other than San Fran on biz trips in the late 90s, I haven't been to a West Coast beach in forever. I agree with The Zhush about childhood and beach going together perfectly.

Oh, I love this post Tiffany! I haven't been to the beach in ages; I will definitely be heading there this summer! Maybe I'll even have to check out Santa Cruz - I've never been there! And luckily...I never left childhood, so I can't miss it - Peter Pan Syndrome. :P

I've never been to Santa Cruz and I honestly never thought about going, but I think that's going to change. I'm not much of a beach girl (I burn WAY too easily), but I love to spend late afternoons and evenings there. Roasting marshmallows over a fire sounds perfect to me.

Have never been to Santa Cruz, but would love to go some time.
I love the beach in the summer, especially in the evenings. And there is nothing better than the beach on holiday. My favourite beach has to be one of the many beaches in Maui, Hawaii :)

Santa Cruz sounds like a dream (or is it your childhood memories?) Never been to Santa Cruz, not going to the beach this summer, but I do have fond memories of childhood. Was a great time (mostly). Wishing you a lovely weekend, Tiffany! x

I love that you got to see the dolphins so up close! I love the beach too, but don't go often because my skin is really sensitive to the sun.
