You all know how much I love food. I strongly believe that eating good food is part of living a fulfilled life. What you might not know is that I'm actually a fairly healthy eater even though I don't like fruits or vegetables (lecture me all you want but I will never like a melon). I try to take care of my body because I rely on it so much. Here is the diet that has helped me through many rehearsals and performances as well as my everyday life.
~ No soda, tea leaf, coffee, or alcohol. Limit fruit juices.
~ Water, water, water.
~ No fake sugar.
~ No frozen meals or canned soups (too much salt)
~ Lots of chamomile and mint herbal teas.
~ Blueberries and Greek yogurt almost every morning.
~ My "go to dinner" is brown rice with an egg and lots of broccoli.
~ Bananas are my new favorite food.
(I don't like the taste but they make me feel great.)
~ Almonds and dark chocolate bits make a great snack and curb hunger.
~ Celery sticks and cucumbers with hummus are the perfect pre-show snack.
Any healthy eating tips you would like to share? I'm always on the look out for more!

Chamomile and mint herbal teas are really great! Green herbal teas are good too and they help with the metabolism... I drink them a lot...I try to be very healthy too and if you like bananas (the way they make you feel) you will like tomatoes (fresh or dry)...they are a great mood boosters :)
I also eat a lot of nuts and blueberries :)
Kisses darling and have a wonderful Tuesday:)
Tiffany yes diet is very important to keep your brain fed so you can remember all your dance steps & keep your muscles strong, & stamina high, I used to love making smoothies with youghut, strawberrys, bananas little low fat milk & a little ice loved the picture :)
an apple is a great pickup in the afternoon...way better than a cup of coffee!
oh how I needed to read this today.. I feel blah and I'd much rather have a lazy day than go to the gym.
I think you can get very old with a diet of brown rice, egg and broccoli. I don't have many rules when it comes to eating (Love my chocolate and brownies and feel about herbal teas like you feel about fruit and veg) - my only 'staying slim trick' is: No dinner.
... ah, and I take a lot of fish oil. Lots! (like 4-5g daily)
Good inspiration!
You are very healthy, regardless of how much you "like" vegetables. Good job taking such good care of your body!
I love you, Tiffany -- my diet is really similar. I got for lots of lean meats (which for me, means chicken, turkey, or fish, as I don't eat other meats), I believe in eating things that are real (real sugar, real butter, etc), organics when I can and when it matters. I also limit my processed sugar intake. Most of my sugar comes from fresh fruit; the rest of it comes from whatever baked good I made that happens to be hanging around (this week: those diabolically delicious rainbow cookies). And I try to balance my meals as much as possible -- it's been working really well and I don't ever feel like I'm missing out on things.
I'm so with you, Tiffany!! Good eating is definitely part of a fulfilled life, but it's all about balance and only spoiling yourself sometimes. (Lots of good wisdom about these ideas in: French Women Don't Get Fat).
That said, I LOVE Greek yogurt. I drink lots of green tea (antioxidants!), and try to eat more things with probiotics. And any dark greens, which have much more fiber than lighter greens.
And steel-cut oatmeal + honey + banana slices for breakfast.
And I do try not to get too full. It messes with your metabolism, and plus - being overly full is just as uncomfortable as letting yourself get really hungry. So I try to avoid both. :)
Thanks so much for sharing, what a fantastic post!!!
Good tips Tiffany. I'd just add:
ORGANIC. If you're going to down fruits and veggies (which I actually love - but you don't) make them organic and get the most out of them.
PLUS: whole grains. Good for you with the brown rice. Since you're eating yogurt most mornings, try some homemade granola to go with it. The crunch is pretty good and the whole oats and wheat will work wonders for your body.

I need to repent!
I drink too much diet soda~that's lots of fake sugar*
sigh~~~
I'm a meat and potatoes kind of girl so I need to make up good health via other means... veggies, oatmeal, tea, nuts, etc. etc. Can you tell us more about your go-to-dinner? Do you have a recipe for that? As it sounds really, really good!
the picture is stunning! love love love!
xoxo
Ooh I just love vegetables!!! I'm lucky like that. Unfortunately, I also have a supreme sweet tooth that reigns above all haha. I have limited soads, etc in my diet. I never drink coffee (it just makes me feel weird). I do a lot of your tips; except that I drink a lot of green tea. I also eat a lof of tofu.
that is a sad story about your hole in the middle! :-( i'm sure it was mighty tasty.
this post is really interesting- i have a few dancer friends and i'm always amazed at how much energy they have! i wish i liked bananas... they're on my "absolutely not" list :-P i just can't stand em!
I stik to the "everything in moderation and try not to deprive myself. When I want to drop a few pounds, I just exercise a bit more and cut out the carbs.
Oh thanks for sharing these, Tiffany! It irks me when I see models and actresses in magazines saying, "I love pizza and eat it all the time." I know that is not true. Come on now! Your tips sound right on. I try to limit sugary carbs like muffins, breads, and desserts. But I can't lie, they are my weakness and I do let myself indulge. All things in moderation.
I love food, too, so I try for portion control. With most diets the first thing that screws me up is the black-coffee-only rule. I can give up a lot of things but coffee with a little milk and sugar isn't one of them!
i love cucumbers and hummus! one of my favorite snacks.
i've been trying to cut out processed foods but we live in such a culture of convenience... you really have to make a conscious effort to eat healthy, whole foods.
that being said, kiwi and i pretty much just finished an eating tour of asia. it was a delicious vacation. needless to say, i am watching what i eat starting today!
I'm trying to work on a better diet too - I'm sticking with a lot of lean proteins, nuts, and yogurt!
Skinny Cow ice cream has been my savior on the sweets side :)
wonderful pictures
Very inspirational, I do try to eat healthy, however do stray at times!

I'm with you! We eat greek yogurt and blueberries in our oatmeal every morning. I try to avoid processed foods, ick, they're so bad for you. And I hate melon as well, I just can't stand it! The only other thing I thought of was not to eat really late at night, or just before bed, eat dinner at a decent hour. Which I hardly ever am able to pull off, boo!
Wow, what will power you have! I couldn't live off this diet very long. I like drinking too much and I'm in love with cheese. But I do try and eat healthy most days, but some days I splurge. You're motivating me though!
Thats a beautiful photo! I find it very hard to be so strict on my diet because I love food, I mean Im not big but Im bigger than I would like to be and I really need to start eating more healthily!! Thanks for the comment, its a pit you live in the states coz I would have met up with you! If you ever visit the UK drop me a line!

i don't know if it's good for you but i eat lots of fiber to keep me healthy especially when you eat them in the morning... have a great day!

I love healthy food and I do belive it is the way to stay fit and well for live! Yes, and some workout that you love:)
Sounds like a well balanced diet. There is a Korean dish I really like (I'm not sure what it is called) which is basically an egg on rice with some meat and veggies. I make my own version for dinner whenever I am home alone :)
PS. I can't believe you don't like melon!! You have difficulty not eating an entire cake... I have difficulty not eating an entire melon. lol.
ooo. i feel giddy just thinking about greek yogurt! blueberries seem to be the main staple of my diet in the summertime.
The best diet is the Mediterranean one. Some "highlights" I would recommend:
1. OLIVE OIL - not drops!
2. MILK
3. HONEY
4. WALNUTS
5. GREEK STUFFED COURGETTES (VERY LIGHT, NOT FATTENING, VERY TASTY)
6. CARROT JUICE
I could go on writing...but
oh!
7. MEAT IS GOOD FOR YOU
I used to be passionate about dancing, especially TRICIA BROWN like. Any sites you could indicate, I would be grateful.

I don't like banannas either but I force myself to eat them too!
girl, you are disciplined!
i recently gave up caffeine and have cut my dairy down to almost nothing. it was really hard at first (especially the lack of DELICIOUS cheese), but lately i have been feeling great. not sure why, but i'll take it! and i've been going to the farmers market and getting produce there. and eating much less meat than i used to. don't get me wrong...i see a medium rare steak in my future. maybe once a month. yum. :)
oh. my. goodness. excuse me, how do you not like melons????! please explain that to me, they are the tastiest fruit on the planet!!
I can not believe this *shakes head sadly* lol :)
Come on melons are delicious!
xoxo

I agree, carrot juice is really good :) love your dancer diet, I need to go back to a healthier life myself :S
Tiffany, you are one talented and dedicated woman. Love your list! I try to eat mostly unprocessed organic food. It really does give you a different kind of energy each day!! ♥
It's not just a good dancer diet-it's a healthy woman diet! I think the most important thing is to eat what you WANT to eat, not what you think you should, and to avoid anything that isn't real. If it doesn't come out of the ground very close to the way you bought it, leave it at the grocery store.
i love fruit! my diet is super healthy (i'm including my love of sweets!). it mostly consists of a multi-vitamin, fresh fruits and vegetables, a smattering of meat, and very very little pre-packaged foods. It helps that I do 95% of my grocery shopping at the farmer's market and cook a lot at home. I mostly drink coffee, tea and water. No soda and rarely juice (except kombucha).
but as my general rule of thumb, when it comes to my diet, i listen to my body. if my lips are dry, it probably means i'm too dehydrated. If i'm constantly tired, i'm probably deficient in iron and eat more protein. Same goes for brittle nails. and the list goes on... I've also noticed over the years that my current diet has improved my overall health and disposition. =)
Good for you! These are such great eating ideas. Thanks for the motivation.
I myself am not big on bananas, but they are a good fruit to eat! They do so much for our bodies, it's amazing. I also have an award on my blog for you!
Me again, I was looking for your newest my week in dance post. I came across a post where you praised some pastries and delicious food and now I get you! Know what? Remember Madonna's dancers from some years back? They were pretty rounded! I believe that a good dancer can be one that is not light as a feather. I have seen rotund and plump dancers do the unimaginable with their body! Are you only into ballet?
hi tiffany! i am so excited to read more of your lovely blog. i have had such fun adventures with food. i have always loved eating real food, and when we eliminated animal products (meat dairy and eggs) i was amazed at how fantastic i felt. we still eat a little here and there but it's just not worth the health hassles.
p.s. peppermint tea is my favorite ♥
I am very active and excercise twice daily. I am also a trained ballet dancer. I do not drink fruit juice; Can't stand them. I drink loads of water. No coffee, but I adore fresh mint tea.
I eat quite a bit of salmon, trout, prawns. Loads of vegetables, organic eggs and chicken.
The only meat I eat once weekly is calves liver for the iron. I eat walnuts daily between 2 and 4p.m. I ws brought up on brown rice. I adore watermelon and the sweet melon; loaded with potassium and such goodness. I also have a fresh glass of grapefruit juice daily. I do not eat ornages.
I also eat an apple a day along with a Kiwi. I soak vegetables and fruits in vinegar and water to remove pesticides if not organic. Bananas are good but not good for my tummy.... Like you I eat organic yogurt, but not so often as you do.
I get my calcium from peanuts, walnuts and pumpkin seeds. I do not eat white rice or white flour.
I love a freshly made chocolate or banana cvake, though;-)
I love how you say you owe it to your body! I'm on weight watchers and recently have cut out chicken, red meat and pork. Mainly for reasons on how they are raised etc. I'm no PETA activist ( I barely like animals) but some things are just wrong. I eat lots of fruits and veggies because I LOVE them and hummus is my best friend. And I mean hummus with LOTS of garlic. I'm sure I will have fewer friends around when I eat it though! ;)
Oooh, what a great list - good for you!
I like to think I eat well, but a little better can't hurt!
I like to take my multivitamins :)
