Sailing

My husband has a dream of learning how to sail.
I want to go out onto the seas and teach our kids to love the ocean.
We just need kids.
And a sailboat.

Honestly, I have an intense fear of ice burgs and sea creatures.
But I love the ocean and I love the story of Captain Ahab.
I wish I could live in Nantucket and sail the seas he did.
And maybe ride my cruiser along the ports that he walked.

Any sailors out there?  Anyone else get freaked out by ice burgs?

I've been sailing on the San Francisco Bay (where I live) and it's such an incredible experience! So beautiful and totally worth fear-conquering. :)

I LOVE the ocean too :) Sean shares Chris's dream of learning how to sail. I wonder where it came from? Did they have some similar experience that instilled that desire? Let's get really really outrageously rich and buy a weathered, charming summer beach house, with wooden floors and a spicket outside for rinsing the sand off our feet. We can take our families sailing as the sun is rising and pack sandwiches and popsicles in a cooler for lunch! wanna?

my boyfriend is a sailor-man...he sails yachts for rich millionaires.

I've been taken out on them a couple of times it makes me feel very posh!

Sailing sounds really relaxing & fun :) I'm more afraid of falling into the water since I can't swim. lol

Aww, I can just imagine you and your sweet family sailing your hearts out =)
When I was a kid, there was an glacier (like an is berg haha) that had broken away from the bigger glacier. My mom made me get on it for a picture and I looked so unhappy because I was scared to death it would float away with me on top.

I love sailing, my husband is extremely outdoorsy, his dream-date is to take me sea-fishing... relaxing on a boat sounds better to me. Hope your dream comes true ;) with kiddies and all.

I love the nautical look; not so much the actual in the water part. I get seasick. Though it sounds so quaint and charming to spend summers sailing in Maine or Nantucket. :)

I'm freaked out by anything on the ocean...yet I love the beach. HA!

I've always wanted to learn how to sail! Even though I get seasick...
But I love everything about the ocean, ocean creatures, the vastness and mystery of it all...:)

You know, sailing is not something I am dying to do. I'd like to GO on a boat, with someone who knew what they were doing, but I've never had the desire to learn. I applaud people who do, though, and I think you guys should learn!

My love also has an interest in sailing.. perhaps because he spent years sailing around the world with the Navy. It's always been our dream to take the little one sailing around the world. One day we'll do it.

I've no desire to sail! Too scared.

I would love to sail, but I get sea sick! It's bad. Some things are just meant for others. :)

I have the same dream. I've always wanted a sailboat, after I took a mini-sailing trip many years ago in Australia. It was amazing! The only part that I need is the sailboat, knowing how to sail and learning how to swim to save my life :-)).

p.s. sweet blog.

I'm not scared of icebergs, but I'm terrified of sharks. So much that I rarely go in water...ever!

The Zhush said...

Not icebergs per se, more the vastness of the never ending sea! Great images!

I have sailing fantasies, too, but in the Mediterranean... no icebergs there! :)

I've always wanted to be a sailer, in fact, I almost joined the Sea Scouts when I was a teenager, but they did too much stuff on Sundays. I'm finally going soon for the first time! I'm heading to a place called OCSC Sailing company who does introductory sailing lessons so you can try it out. (Shhh...don't tell Matthew, it's a surprise!) I can't wait!

I love the sea but I've never really been sailing. Would like to try it. xx

I went sailing a few times before, not the best of fun. But, maybe it was because I was young, haven't tried it since. Must go sailing sometime soon. Thanks for reminding me!SarahD:)

I love the ocean but can't say I share in your fears. I think the vastness of it all would start to spook me. But I think that it would be a wonderful adventure, and esp to share something like that with your kids!

I love the ocean, its pulse, its power...but only when I'm on land. I actually get seasick, as I rediscovered while kayaking in January, so no high seas adventures for me. I will, however, happily live vicariously through you.

I would love to learn how to *really* sail. I have only been once while on vacation in St. Lucia a couple of yrs ago and it was on one of those really small ones that look more like a floating device with a sail. LOL! It was much trickier than we expected, I was afraid I was gonna get knocked in the head and fall unconscious into the water. We also got caught in a cross breeze and were stranded for over an hour, and then it started to rain. LOL. But I totally want to learn how to do it properly ;)

Please come join my *Cupcake Challenge*, I promise it will be loads of fun!!

I'd love to go sailing. It would give me the chance to ride the seas while wearing a little sailor hat and striped shirt with wedges. Ahoy!

My grandfather and all my uncles are sailors-my oldest uncle is a merchant marine and has been on the sea all his life. So it made sense that when I was kid, my parents bought a little dingy and taught me to sail.

Of course, the first summer we were allowed to go out on the water by ourselves, my cousin steered the boat straight into the dock! I haven't been much of a sailor since!
