Birthday Cakes

July is my birthday month and all I can think about is what kind of birthday cake I want.  I am loving these Miette Cakes.  If you've ever gone to the Ferry Building in San Francisco, you know how jaw dropping this bakery is.

I am in love with this stunning Scharffen Berger chocolate cake.

This one is called "Princess."  Very fitting.

I love the simplicity of their "Old Fashioned."  It reminds me of a perfect hot fudge sundae.

They also have amazing Parisian Macaroons and the most beautiful shortbread.  And their cupcakes?  Incredible!

What kind of birthday cake do you fancy?
(or are you a pie/brownie/ice cream person?)

Growing up, my mama would always make us mud pie on our birthdays (and for any holiday), so that's what makes me happiest (although I tried to replicate it once and it definitely wasn't the same!). I really love any fruit dessert--fruit tarts, key lime pie, peach cobbler, etc. The older I get, though, the more I'm drawn to decadent chocolate. Man oh man, I guess I love it all! Except shaved coconut--not into that. :)

I LOVE Scharffen Berger chocolate!!! I bet that cake is delicious because their chocolate is incredible. I like the dark chocolate nibby bars they have.

I love Miette. Every time I make a trip up to San Francisco (which is often! :), I always try to go to the Ferry Building for grilled cheese sandwiches at Hog's Island and then immediately to Miette for macarons. (And then if I have stomach left, I go through the farmer's market, as well!). These cakes look soo yummy - worth going up north again for a try!!
(Though my favorite birthday cake is probably an ice cream cake :)

holy guacamole those look too pretty to eat. how did they get the frosting on the last one like that? i am certainly baffled. my birthday cake this year had marzipan... anything with marzipan wins my vote. and some apricot stuff and some chocolate stuff!!

otherwise, it's simply my go to red velvet!

I swoon for Miette! They got me hooked on my favorite European-market Haribo gummies, and their tomboy cakes! That's what I want at the table for my birthday!

July is my Bday month too! My favorite birthday pastry would have to be red velvet cake with chocolate frosting... I'm a bit of a chocoholic :P. Those cakes looked too good to be true!

Oddly enough, I prefer frosting over cake; therefore, hand me a few tubs of frosting and I'm in my glory!

I think you need the Princess cake. It is gorgeous and completely makes me think of Marie Antoinette!! :)

Are those cakes actually real? They all look so incredibly perfect. A simple cake is definitely the way to go. Sigh...if I were closer, I'd bake you one.

I'm a July baby, too! I don't really love cake but I do like brownie cheesecakes and ones with a lot of chocolate. I bought a banana chocolate cake from my husband's birthday last week and it was yummy!

P.S. Canada day activities are pretty similar to the 4th of July--fireworks, BBQ, relaxing, that sort of stuff!

Hard to believe they are actual cakes. They look so perfect

Oh, Wow! These cakes look almost too pretty to eat... but I'm sure they taste amazing!
My personal favorite is cheesecake -- anytime, anywhere -- but if it's a B-day cake it always tastes even sweeter :)
