Calling All Men: Need A New Shoe!

My wonderful Mr. Branflake has worn converse for fifteen years.  15 years of bad arch support and black and white high tops.  He told himself when he turned 30 that he would buy a more grown-up shoe.  That was two years ago and he still wears his good ol' Chucks everyday (except Sundays when he wears his Church shoes).

We are pretty much positive that our babies will all wear Converse just like their daddy.

So I need your help.  What's a good "grown up" guy shoe?  He's having a hard time letting go but at the same time he doesn't want to be 40 and still wearing the same shoe.  Besides, it really has bad arch support.
I've never owned a pair of Converse, have you?

yes i have serial pair of converse and i think that they are perfect pair of shoe even if your forty and do you watch the show house,md with hugh laurie, he is 51 and they look great on him. well thats my opinion take it or leave it.

ps growing up is a bit overrated, its nice to keep a bit of the kid in you.makes life fun.

Nope, never! But I've seen the kiddie versions and they are really too cute, I've thought about getting a pair for my son (he's four)!

I love my Converse, but I bought inserts for my shoes so they'd have more arch support and padding. That's made a big difference for me. Maybe he could try that?

oh yes and i love them dearly xxxxxx

LOVE them! I have them in red, my hubby in blue.

What's the definition of "grown-up" anyway? I feel more child-like now at 29 then I did at 19, so the shoes have to match :-)

i say boy or girl, they are a good choice. love them!!!

I love converse but I have to put an arch support in I can only wear a shoe so long before my feet hurt if it has no arch.

I don't think there is an upper age limit on converse!

:-)

If he wanted to try something new and different but in the same line, he could try Tretorn though I often pull out their insoles too to put in my own superfeet insoles.

I wore Converse when I was in Grade 7 or 8, they were huge then. Maybe try moving him to a more "grown up" running shoe first?

My monkeys had converse (the same navy pair) as babies before they could walk but afterwards who needs a shoe that is hard to lace and put on little feet- Not to mention that they have bad arch support-
Good luck getting big boy shoes-

My husband wears jeans, polo shirts and tennis shoes to work. His dress up shoe is a Luchesse cowboy boot.

I am of no help.

My hubs is similarly Cons addicted. I wear Chucks too but I don't live and die for them the way he does. HA! I made him get a pair of big boy shoes for business school...Sperry topsiders...He loves them! Go figure.

You are so sweet for doing research for Mr Branflake! I did own converses and I still love the look, but these days I wear tennis shoes for tennis and running shoes for running (ahem, not really), but when I want to give my feet a day off. I normally buy adidas - adidas originals have some cool looks, I find.

I'm not a big Converse girl, I'm more preppy than punk! Tell him to check out John Varvatos, that's my favorite men's clothier (and shoethier, lol!)

A more grown up shoe? That made me giggle. But I honestly don't know anything about grown up man shoes so no help here. I have never worn converse, either, but they're quite popular among my friends.

whats grown up shoes? but if he wants new shoes for better arch support then maybe just get regular tennis from like new balance, nike, or the like. i notice that tons graduate from cons to new balances.

I wore the same pair of converse from 7th grade til they finally gave out Sophomore year (of college. I think Sperry Topsiders are hot on men, but I have thing for prepsters :)

i think converse shoes will always be classic. it sounds like they are his signature look! why mess with a good thing?

kiwi has just gotten into buying quality, well made shoes... his current obsession is anything by allen edmonds. they are crazy expensive but he gets them at a discounted price at nordstrom rack :)

I'm not sure about guy-shoes, but I bought Converse once and never again! I felt so flat-footed walking in them and they were soooo uncomfortable. Never again! xx

hmmmm. i guess i dont really know what a good "grown up" guy shoe would be. but i the picture of all the sizes of converse's is adorable!!!

so the posts im doing right now are ones i think you'll enjoy immensly and there are four more full posts full of them to come.

drollgirl said...

he he. i wore converse for about a year in high school. that was long ago!

and i was just reflecting the other day that men really get the shaft in the shoe department. we ladies have MUCH better choices!!!

Wild and Precious said...

i think converses must be alway acceptable and stylish and i bet your hubby rocks them!!!

adult shoes -- not sure me or my husband could give appropriate advice on that matter... :)

Arch inserts would be a great addition to Converse! I've never had a pair, but I'm always in support-less flats!

J-Diggety said...

Bad support aside, chucks are pretty fly... could Mr. Branflake put inserts in 'em? Or maybe a street-shoe of one of the athletic brands (Nike, Adidas, etc.)?

I owned a pair of chucks in college and was just saying I wanted a new pair the other day... please don't judge me.

And, my pops is turning 60 this year and still wears converse. But, you're right, he is a big kid. So, I'm not sure if that is an argument for or against them for your husband. ;)

I had a pair of high top converse that I loooved in high school! Maybe he could get one of those arch supports put in :) Or what about Asics? Urban has some cool ones!

Hahhahaa, such a cute post!

I do have a pair of light pink Converse and I love them but I don't wear them everyday, their 'flatness' and lack of arch support gets to me after a while.

A good grown up boy shoe...that's a hard one.

I love the idea of a family in Converse, though. Maybe you should get a pair ;) hehehe.

that is such a cute picture!!

i have 2 pairs... one with laces and one without... plus all the other shoes i own... there is no grown up shoe it think, i'd say you should call them dress shoes... maybe a pair of Kenneth Cole's would be a good starting point...

Hey Tiffany,
Steph's sister here. I always want to comment on your blog, but am usually holding a baby and can't type. But I just had to say that Chris should keep wearing the shoes! Just get a good insert for support or whatever. I've seen men I admire a lot nearing their 50's, and still wearing converse. I think it looks great and shows his personality (fun and laid back)!

I swoon over guys in Converse. That said, Ben doesn't own a pair. (I think I'm in trouble...)
