I refuse to read the book Eat, Pray, Love or watch its very anticipated movie. I read an interview with Elizabeth Gilbert a few years ago, heard her story, and I thought, "No Way. I will never read that book nor will I see that movie." Why?
Because I knew if I did I would pack my bags in a heartbeat to travel the world.
I love traveling.
~I love the feeling of watching the scenery go by in a fast moving train.
~I love airports.
~I love knowing I am making memories at every new discovery, meal, and person I meet.
~I love seeing the world through new eyes and a more open heart.
~Being out of my comfort zone is worth the feeling of independence and discovery.
~Being out of my comfort zone is worth the feeling of independence and discovery.
A few times in my life I have packed up my belongings and moved to a foreign place to start anew. Even though it was sometimes unnerving and scary, it was worth coming out of it a different person.
Do you have the perpetual urge to travel or are you a homebody?

That is such an understandable reason for avoiding that book/movie! I have not read it either, and although I have the curiosity to eventually, I am afraid I would feel exactly the same as you! Already, the previews for the movie alone make me want to be somewhere else. I am equal parts homebody and adventurer I think...I love seeing new places, learnign new customs, meeting new people, breathing new air; but at the end of the day, my favorite place is home :]
I have traveled more in the past year than really ever in my life. I know exactly what you mean, that movie would just make me want to quit my current life and spread my wings to a new adventure.
I've got a Seattle trip coming up that I am excited about. I'm meeting up with the ex-boyfriend's mom there. She was so upset when I told her we broke up that she cried. So I cried. She promised we'd still be friends.
I haven't read the book either. I'm definitely a homebody. Every time I travel, I can't wait to come home to my house! :)
When I was 19 I went on a walkabout by myself...all through Europe, North Africa, and overland to India and back. It was beyond awesome. I was gone a year and a half and when I returned.....I was very different. Now I travel with my husband/ soul mate and it's amazing too. But I will always remember the thrill of traveling alone....
I'm a homebody in Scotland now, after living in London, France and Spain. I bought the book on hol in NYC a few years back and enjoyed it. Can't wait for the film! xx

I'd say both. I LOVE to travel but quite honestly, I love being home too. As for the book, I have to say, I read the first few chapters but it just didn't keep my interest. I'll probably see the movie when it comes out on DVD but just not sure I feel as excited about it as everyone else seems to be. Happy Saturday Dear! xo
oh my god, I feel the SAME way about this movie. I haven't read the book either, and I get a little sick to my stomach when the previews come on. I just know if I saw it I would pack up our clothes and leave, and my child would be raised in India or something.
I'm a little bit of both. These days I'm more struck with the urge to travel the world, though. i have a list of places I want to go to. It's a long list, too.
I would like to either do it alone or with one specific person.
I'm both, I love an adventure, I love to travel but after awhile I just want to go home. However, my home is wherever I live... It's not where I'm from. So, if I moved to Europe it would be my home! :-)
I loved Eat Pray Love and while it made me want to drop everything and travel I really got a lot out of it. Elizabeth Gilbert had an amazing TED talk on creativity and genius. You should look it up!
I would love to have the time to travel; but i do love reading other people's stories. I can really recommend the blog Turquoise Diaries if you haven't come across it too
You would really deny yourself that intense longing? That is just one of the facets of life and if you omit that then you don't have a symmetrical diamond that shines with ferocity.
I love to travel and could use a vacation big style!
i am such a homebody, though i do enjoy traveling (hate airports though). i have lived in Los Angeles my entire life, so i guess that says a lot about me. i do admire people who have the courage to pick-up and start over new somewhere else.
btw the book was okay...i actually read half of it and gave up.

I seem to be always travelling - so I really ought to see the film.
It might just temper my lust for exciting new cities, cultures, people and languages. Warmly hopes you are in good form;-)
I love the book and am definitely looking forward to seeing the movie. But I agree with you it definitely made me want to pack my bags and see the world especially Italy.
I will knock your socks off :) I have lived in 7 different countries, moved 23 times, and I thnk I am only now figuring out my final desires. I loved every new place I've been to, although I hate moving . I love new places, new people and more so - the discoveries about self :)
i do like being home, but basically i have a perpetual urge to travel... (you already know this prob from my most recent blog post!)... even a little heartbroken because i know i won't get to go EVERYWHERE before i die. boo.
watching under the tuscan sun tonight actually! and i probably will torture myself and make myself miss italy even more by going to see eat pray love..
I would LOVE to travel more. We just got back from an international trip and I have to say I've got the travel bug! I'm already planning our next trip!
I live in a constant state of wanderlust!
I'd love to travel too and see the world. I especially love to spend time with nature. :)

I love to travel :) I still want to see the movie though haha.
I have an immense desire to travel the world however I don't think I could survive without being near at least some of my friends or family. To me, sharing the experience with someone is almost as important as having it period. If travel is in your heart maybe you should take off and create your own memoir of the journey!
I'm both. I really like to have my home base, but when the travelling bug bites, I'd like to give into it. I just saw Eat Pray Love last night and I haven't quite processed how I feel about it yet. There was a lot I liked, some things I was a little disappointed by. But I do very badly want to travel now, to step outside of my comfort zone to learn about myself, to meet and bond with lovely people. If you love to travel, Tiffany, you should do it, even if they can only be little adventures right now.
this is one of my favorite blogs i think you have written in a while. I feel the same way about traveling. Living in europe these past two years has been the best experience of my life. it has opened up my eyes, mind and heart to something so completely different. traveling brings me joy, adventure, fulfillment...
Oh Tiffany, you are talking to a true addict here - I think I caught the bug as a kid. Because my dad worked as a professor we lived in all kind of places in Germany, as well as in the USA and in Australia. As a student I spent my life travelling South and Middle America and the States (with the 'excuse' to learn Spanish and brush up on my English)... I've now settled in the UK, but if I could afford it I would now travel through Europe, living in different cities. The joy!
... but I still want to see the movie ;-) xo
Heck yeah! I moved by myself to NYC when I was 24, I've lived in Dallas, Providence, Atlanta, I'm all for adventure. My best vacation ever was a trip to Dublin by myself because my bf at the time (he was such a loser, lol!) had just dumped me and we were supposed to go together. So, he gave me the cash for his plane ticket and hotel, I used it and had a ball by myself! XX!
Hmmm.... I love to travel but I'm also a total homebody. I couldn't just up and leave, I'd need to have a home base.
I feel the same way!! I love to travel, even though I have barely gone anywhere. xoxo
I completely agree... and yes i definitely have the urge to travel. I love that you mentioned you love airports because so do I! That feeling that everyone is off on an adventure even when your returning!
I haven't heard of this book/film!

I *definitely* find the gypsy-style life incredibly appealing. If I wasn't so close to my family, I would probably move around a lot. I would love to pick up once every 6 months or year and move on to a completely different location and way of life.
When I was much younger (twenties) I traveled everywhere...but now I am such a homebody!
I'll be honest; though many view me as a homebody, there is nothing that I would love to do more than travel the world. To live out of a suitcase and meet enchanting boys while eating decadent foods. Gah! I think we need to abandon our lives for a short while and see someplace new, don't you, Tiffany? :P
haha I wish I had the guts to do that!

I love to travel, but there's nothing like coming home at the end of a long vacation! I guess I'm a little bit of both!
I just saw the movie today and had the same dull ache in my tummy that I had while reading the book.
I'm DEFINITELY in the perpetual urge to travel camp.
i'm really curious about the book..
and i really love travelling too darling..
btw, the pictures are so cute and fabulous..
This resonates, as I'm the same! But I just give in (3 addresses in Europe, 4 in America, all in 48 months...). I jumped right into this movie & book :)
I used to travel a lot, I've been to nearly 40 countries. Then the baby came along and I didn't go anywhere for a few years! Now I'm back to doing a bit more again... and I take him with me! He's been to five countries already!
I am ready to travel anytime...Balazs knows that as we moved so much .....I love to live in new places and adapt to new environments:)....I read it and I cant wait to see it...but for now..we are staying here...We will see where future will take us:)
Hugs
The perpetual urge to travel, no question.
And you are one smart gal for knowing your vices... that book sure didn't help my wanderlust!! :)
xoxo J
I ALWAYS want to be travelling. I love home but there are so many amazing places to explore that I am dying to go to. I am sure if I read that book or see the movie, I will be spending hours researching where I want to go next. I feel like I constantly have the travel bug!
i am like you but the reason for not reading the book or watch the movie is that I don't agree with self indulgent women with boring lives that think their problems are above anyone else. I love traveling like you do and all the other things you mention and wish you many travels to enjoy life and make it richer... you are who you are not who the trip makes you... big kiss!!!
Isn't home where you feel the most like yourself? EPL is about a woman finding herself by leaving home. It's really more about the internal journey. The book is divine. The movie is good.
I had a negative reaction to the book at first, but for different reasons. Maybe jealousy that I can't drop my life into a suitcase and travel to exotic locales, meet dashing strangers and feel like that is a life lived.
Because my life is so much more grounded, real than that, it is in my small home and my lap with my 4 young children.
That said, my Ladies Night Out this week is...can you guess? To see that blasted movie. (it's cheaper than a plane ticket)
I love traveling! In fact, my parents often refer to me as a nomad because I like to travel so much and don't staying put for very long. I feel like Vianne in the movie Chocolat often...I go where the Northern wind pulls me :)
