What happens in pectoralis minor syndrome is the chest area gets tight and causes a "pulling down and forward" on the upper back muscles. This in turn causes tightness and pain everywhere from the head all the way down to the thoracic spine, particularly through the shoulder blades.
Luckily, there is an easy way to remedy pectoralis minor syndrome and that is through proper stretches like this one.

That is a great post!!! I do sit a lot and I am going to try those tips:)
Thanks,sweetie
Ps:Thanks for the lovely comment:)
I absolutely do suffer from a lot of tightness in my upper back -- the results of sitting hunched over a computer a good portion of the day. I am definitely trying these stretches and will do them on a regular basis. Thanks, Tiff!
I always have problems like those.
Usually a massage helps =)
thanks for the recommendations! ive had some back issues lately - didnt know if it was from stress or not sleeping well. i'll def be thinking of what you suggested.
also i thought it was sweet of you to give out some love for those going through heartache. im sure it so appreciated!
thanks....I'm sure that is just what I need!
You are so sweet to write about this! I think that everyone who sits at their computer for even an hour or two at a time can really use these tips!
Such great tips here, thanks so much for sharing!! I sit too much & needed to see this :)
I do that often and it feels amazing!
Ooh, I love this new addition to Dancing Branflakes - tips on combatting pain are always fabulous! :)
Yes, Yes and Yes. I hear ya about the pains and tightness. I know it all too well.
As for the heartache... Ugghhhh, life just sucks sometimes doesn't it?? These last few days have been rough!!
a good stretch can always do the trick! :)

how odd my neck has been killing me!
This is very helpful! I'm sure this is something all bloggers probably experience due to being in front of computers so much. =/
This is amazing and incredibly interesting, I love it! Thanks for the advice!
Terrific advice! I'm sitting at my desk now, and just did it-I feel much better!
Thanks for the tip! Headaches and back pain are my constant companions. I get a lot of migraines and I've had back issues since I got in an accident. This seems like it may help when my back gets extra stiff during the day.
holy moly, i was just feeling the worst pinch in my right upper back/shoulder as i opened up this post! i have this pain all the time at work -- i call it mouse shoulder. it HURTS! i will try this stretch immediately!
to be an old complaining lady, somtimes i have the worst hip pain. i think it is from sitting too much. i stretch and contort myself into mad positions trying to stretch out those hip flexors. flexers? sometimes the stretches help. sometimes.
and very sorry about all of the heartache going around on planet earth. life can be so hard. it is such a relief when it gets easier.
I definitely suffer from this... I use this stretch from time to time in an attempt to curb the pain. However, by the time I have pain in my neck or shoulders it's too late for just stretching. I usually have to cut my computer and sitting time in half or more.
I'm also looking into rolfing and somatics... Maybe once I have a job I can afford the rolfing sessions.
i think i could solve a lot of mine by sitting up strait at work.. i'm such a sloutcher!
i know.. why is there so much heartache in the blogosphere lately? :-( :-(
I'm going to need this since I've been doing sooo much sitting lately! Great post :)

How amazing! Thank you for the advice, I am going to forward this to my friend who definitely shows signs of pectoralis minor syndrome, maybe this can help her!
I'm going to have to give this a try. I get knots galore around my shoulder blades.
Wow, thank you for the advise. I always forget to stretch whilst at the computer. But my workplace had an ergonomics person come in and she gave us the same advise :)
Thank you T!
My neck hurts sometimes...I might have to consider different options for my bed pillows perhaps? Although I can't part with them...

oh yes, this is so me - although sadly not the ample chest!! :)
my bowen therapist gave me that exercise to do, and it is great, helps a lot. But then the sciatica in the lower back kicks in and i'm off in another direction of pain!
coll, thoughtful, post! thanks, jules
in actually had a very stiff neck a few months ago and felt like someone was pressing down on my shoulders. i looked online for ways to relieve the stress and ended up treating my anxiety on top of it! this would have been helpful!

OH yes, I suffer from upper back/neck/shoulder pain. I do lots of yoga to try and help and to feel good in general but have found that the stretch you pictured does help a lot. I think the way I sleep has a lot to do with my pain as well but I am having a hard time fixing that problem! :)
