Pavlovas

Pavlovas are light as air confections.  Glossy and smooth on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside they are one of the most elegant desserts around.  Did you know they were actually named after Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova.  Can you see the resemblance?

Pavlovas are quite stunning and an impressive party dessert.
  Their namesake would be proud.

I actually knew this! When I was a child, I read a children's book that was about a young fictional ballerina, and they talked about Pavlovas, and how they were named after Anna Pavlova.

I've never actually seen them though! They look delicious!

I can't believe that you featured Pavlovas!! I've been trying to convince myself to attempt making one but am worried that I won't be as pleased with it as the one's I buy out. Very interesting about their name and I can totally see the resemblance -- learned something new today!!

(sigh) My mom used to make the most amazing raspberry pavlovas and she told me the story behind the name. This post just brought back so many good memories.

Thank you!

Figured! When I was little, I read a biography about Anna Pavlova, and decided that she was my favorite ballerina. I love her.

Those look tasty. I am a terrible baker but if I ever come upon some...

Pavlovas are great - as long as the filling is tart enough to balance out the sickly sweetness of the merengue, else my teeth want to cry!

I have a recipe for a pavlova, but I've been hesitant about making it since I had no idea before now what one was supposed to look like. I think you just expanded my culinary world.
