How to Look Model Worthy in Photos

image via

On Tuesday, photographer Tom Huynh and I went out to lunch (Pho!) and had a nice chat.  I was complaining explaining to him that even though I have loved collaborating with these talented photographers I don't have the model body type (tall, leggy, wind constantly in the hair).  Then he said something I thought was very profound.

The model of elegance: Audrey Hepburn.

"It's all about elegance.  You don't have to have the model body type to take a good photo if you are elegant."

That made me feel better.

Let's all celebrate by walking with a book on our head.
I kid!  I am pretty sure elegance comes from within.

How do you feel elegant?
Also, images from our photoshoot will be up soon!

ps... don't forget to enter the giveaway.  I don't do these often so when I do it's pretty exciting (for me, at least).

Sometimes the right dress and heels makes me feel elegant. At other times it's the setting and activity. Maybe I need a bit more of daily gracefulness in my life though.

i feel that fall clothes make you look the most elegant because the clothes are still nice and tailored and not bulky... def lipstick and the right show work wonders!

Elegance is the best sort of beauty, if you ask me - and you have it in droves!

Heels always make me feel elegant. And good posture. And something sparkly! :)

So...I'm new to your blog. Why do you collaborate with all these photographers? Just that sentence makes you sound very glamorous! :) I feel the same way about how I photograph, although I don't collaborate with photographers. What a lovely piece of advice he gave you!! I don't always feel elegant but I think that is something to work towards!! And I just adore Ms. Audrey. She is the epitome of elegance! It's been a pleasure *meeting* you! Happy New Year!

Great advice :) I also think it's about confidence as well. And the way I feel both is if I dress up! lol

Brilliant. Simple advice that we definitely need reminding from time to time. I get like that too - when in the midst of a "real" photographer, I feel so intimidated, thinking like, "Ugh, this guy shoots professional models all the time. What's his impression of me when he looks through a lens when he's used to seeing tall, thin, beautiful women all the time?" But then I try to remember Tom's advice and I get over it (or try to :). I try to feel elegant by trusting myself and being as real as I can be :)

that's so beautiful and true! so many of my favorite photo shoots with my favorite actresses are those who are incredibly short and petite, like me! i feel the most elegant after a good yoga session, when i slip on a pretty dress. those two things sort of meet all of my inner and outer needs.

Red lipstick and a fabulous coat. Even if I've got my Pjs on underneath, it always makes me feel elegant.

You always look so beautiful in photos. Pretty and elegant! I think if I want to feel elegant I stick to classical colours and shapes - and balance the books on my head :)

I need some tips on getting photographed! Okay, I am NOT at all bad-looking, if I do say so myself, but I always look 10 times worse in photos, what is UP with that?? XX!

If only we could have that sheer perfect-wind-through-the-hair effect on a consistent basis hahha wouldn't that be great?

I think elegance can come in many forms. It can come from a sense of confidence, or wearing a timeless piece,or maybe it's red nail polish or a certain shade of lipstick, or a fragrance.

I tend to 'feel' elegant when I'm wearing my hair in a fresh twist, but I know that for the most part, I feel more elegant when I'm feeling peaceful and calm, shoulders back and just feeling comfortable in my own skin.

As a dancer, you are by definition elegant. Know that as a woman you are elegant. Know you are strong, and graceful and full of beauty. The camera captures that...and your elegance with it. Don't worry about your reflection...it's beautiful.

oops! Almost forgot! HAPPY NEW YEAR {almost} ;)

The thing that really does it for me is scent. I love wearing a grown-up perfume - say Chanel Beige or 31 rue Cambon - it makes me feel elegant, sophisticated, adored and feminine - and I straighten my spine and walk with my head held high, instantly.
O, and I hope you have a very elegant and wonderful New Year!

Excellent advise;-)
Elegance is confidence and charm. Has nothing to do with the clothes one wears.
