Winter Bike Rides

image via

Mara from M Loves M has this great idea to do little resolutions on a weekly basis.  I decided I really needed to get on the goal oriented band wagon and do a little resolving myself.  Last week I resolved to make an extra effort to be kind to telemarketers.

This week I'm resolving to ride my bike every single day.

Luckily, northern California in January is beautiful and perfect for riding my bike a few times around the lake.  The air is crisp and my lungs are invigorated within the first few pedals.

I know this resolution seems small but I don't ever want to take for granted my awesome bike, my good health, and the beautiful neighborhood I live in.  So in a way, it's the small and simple things that help us achieve the greater things.

How are you with your goals/resolutions?

I love that photo and I love this week's resolution. It makes me wish I had a bike.

Is it sad that I instantly recognized that dress in the photograph? Anthropologie. Yeah. As for my goals, they're coming along nicely I think, though I still have a long way to go. I really need to get fully back into exercising. And find time to just slow down -- I feel like I've been rushing constantly lately.

Ooh, I need to indulge in daily bike rides - they sound so serene and enchanting!

With goals I'm good - I can typically keep them; resolutions, not so much. More because I rarely make resolutions for myself; but I constantly have goals that I'm striving to reach! :)

Ahh and what perfection to ride it with a lovely chiffon skirt! My resolution is to go to the gym more, even if it's for 20 minutes. It's working!

I'm considering my 101 in 1001 my goals and resolutions. I've definitely been slacking.

I love the idea of breaking down your goals into little pieces and focusing on each one a week. I saw that Mara was doing that and wanted to join in too! Because my problem is that I have SO many things I want to work on and get overwhelmed (and inevitably, don't get any of them done). Riding bikes everyday is a LOVELY resolution. I wish I lived closer to work/everything to be able to do that :) Let us know how it goes (and take photos - because you'll probably come across some really lovely things on your bike ride that you would just miss in a car! :)

That is a beautiful resolution! And ,yes, you are right - taking advantage of a beautiful place that you live in is definitely a must! I soooo underestimated the weather and climate of where we got ourselves to. But , thank you for VERY valuable suggestions! We made use out of them :)

oh i am so jealous of this! right now, if i were to take out my little bike, i'd get about half a block before running into two feet of snow or slipping on the ice or whining about how cold it is! i will live vicariously through you :-)

Dang, I wish I had a bike! I love the idea of riding a bike around town. I need one!

I don't really have any major resolutions for the year, just goals carried over from last year.

I must admit, this has been a whirlwind week (Tuesday feels like a lifetime ago), and I'm frustrated because it's so hard to take good care of yourself during times like this! Between work and tech week, I haven't eaten a meal at a table since Saturday! BUT, as soon as I get a little breather, you know I'll be back on my bike!

What a lovely idea! I so wish I could do the same but NYC this year especially is no place to ride your bike. We got another snow storm and I'm snowed in again today. I'll live vicariously through you :)

I really wish i had a bike! Esp since the weather is getting ever so slightly warmer outside... i think this is a great goal to shoot for!
I am still doing really well with going to the gym, and eating better! yay!

I think small resolutions is great. I HAVE to start small or I won't do it...baby steps!

I am doing great. I'd love to go bike riding but the weather doesn't allow for that.

One of my goals is to work on life/blog balance. The flu has been helping a great deal. Argh.

I would love to get a bike though! And the skirt she's wearing on that bike?

haha!

i love riding my bike! it's much too cold here for that right now, can't wait till the spring!! my resolutions are actually going surprisingly well so far, at least for the most part (i have a few too many i think, it's a bit impossible to keep up with them all!) but the most important ones are going well :)

Great decision! I would so love to ride my bike more often. I don't make any resolutions - I'd just break them and be sad about it.

I'm not one for resolutions, but I am inspired to ride my bike now :)

Oh girl - if only I could go outside right now and enjoy it. It's so painfully cold and snowy out there that I don't want to step foot out there! Riding a bike around sounds so pleasant right now. I'm trying to not eat sugar this week, it's so hard! Sugar is in everything!

a bike ride is such a great thing to do!! i sometimes ride my little bike down to a coffee shop about a half mile away. it's a super short trip, but i love sipping coffee in the sun with my little bike next to me. it seems so dreamy doesn't it? i wish we lived closer, i would love to join you!

I love this! Such a great idea! If I could survive on a bike everyday in LA I sooo would! So glad you're joining in on this :)

I wish I could still bike.
Mountains of snow and slush here in Toronto mean that wish remains a wish.

I suck at them for the most part but I think breaking them down into smaller week-long chunks is a good way to be motivated and get it done.

I'm pretty bad at resolutions- Either something rocks my world and I make a drastic change or I don't at all-
Hope your bike riding gives you added energy!

It's kind of funny, actually. i come back from lunch with girlfriends, and we decide to go biking this weekend. I come back and find your blog. I had life on a bit of a standstill for a while. I shall surely make some resolutions now.

i don't 'do' resolutions - but i do have a goal to lose the weight i put on in the last 2 years and practice more buddhist energies ..

I agree, never underestimate the power of small, but realistic resolutions. a couple years ago I resolved to volunteer once a month, and it's worked so well that I'm still doing it (and it's benefiting the community at large)! This year I've been had a hard time pinpointing any one goal for 2011, but perhaps I should try setting weekly goals.
