Me: What do you think about women's boots?
Mr. Branflake: I don't like them.
Me (who has at least ten pairs): Why not? You don't like my boots?
Mr. Branflake: I like your boots, but some boots that women wear are just strange.
I asked him to elaborate and I loved his (very male) response:
"Boots dominate an outfit so much that they really need to be the right kind of boot. You also need to have the right kind of outfit."
I never thought of it that way.
So what are the "right kind of boots"? Here are his thoughts on each genre:
~Uggs or some kind like them: The weather needs to be cold. Extremely cold. Frigid.
~Leather boots: Only for going out at night with friends.
~Casual, flat boots: Cute with a casual outfit.
~Thigh high boots: Never.
Then I showed him a bunch of boot photos (bless his heart) and I asked for his commentary on each one. Even though he felt uncomfortable at first I think he really enjoyed doing it. Here goes:
No. Absolutely not.
The combination of the casual sole with the fancy lacing just looks weird.
No again. The buckle is too much.
And the suede borders on casual while the heel is more dressy.
The two looks should not be combined.
Triple no. The color and the heel are too much.
Besides that, the sole does not match the shoe in terms of casual to dressy.
Yes, initially. The casual heel with the slouched look is paired well.
Although the shape throws me off.
Yes. I like this one. I like the dressy nature of it with the heel.
I like how it's streamlined and sleek.
I would never change my style for anyone but I think it's always interesting to hear what guys think about what we wear. And since my hubby's a math person here's the breakdown:
Casual=Casual
Dressy=Dressy
Uggs=Antartica
Are you a boot person?
Side story:
When I began showing him all these photos he dramatically held out his hand in the "stop" gesture and said "Wait. I think I need to be rubbing your shoulders while we look at these." Swoon!
PS... Blair from Wild and Precious did the sweetest feature on me today.
Thanks Blair!

Ps: I am hosting a beautiful Garnish party supplies GIVEAWAY today :) ...Just in time for Valentine’s Day!
thinks:)
okay, this is hilariously awesome! yous should get your hubs to guest post.
i love boots.. but more the casual ones. i love the funky anthro ones.. but not the $$.
p.s. blogged about YOU today!!
I love this post! I think our husbands would have a lot of the same opinions about women's fashion!
I pretty much agree with his comments EXCEPT for that suede boot with the buckle. I love that one!
I think this is a GREAT post!!! i ask my husband what he thinks about different things in my wardrobe all the time... but I never really put it down the way you did with this. Guys are very logical and literal when it comes to clothes/fashion i suppose. This was quite interesting! thanks!
gah!! i LOVE LOVE LOVE boots!! my husband is NOT a fan!! but i think they look great with skinny jeans and dresses for sure!! and it keeps you warm when it's snowing and cold outside (duh!)
my posts prove i am a boots person!
totally inspiring post!!
i am following!
check out my blog if u like it!
That is adorable! Got to love the guy opinion. I think it is very true that some say that woman dress for other woman lol.
hehe!
this is so funny!
boys perspectives on fashion are often much more practical than fashionable i find.
So adorable! I do think that boots need to be well suited to the outfit you're wearing them with, and I love that Uggs=Antartica!
So funny. I think men have a problem with women shoes in general... I love them all!
A true fashion connaisseur! you'd never get so much insights from my man... and I very much agree with him. So could this be followed by a post about ankle boots (the only ones I wear)? Mr B, we need you!
this is hilariously fabulous! he is so sweet and i would say TOTALLY RIGHT ON! holden and i have the same taste in girl boots/shoes...which is very limited. i'm no fashionista, but i love more casual flat boots that emulate futuristic combat boots.
so many women will wear things JUST because they think men will like them...but i don't think they realize that many men don't like many things women wear! haha.
Your hubby sounds such fun! I think it depends on each person - and what you wear. Boots can be great but I think you have to get the whole outfit just right.
Haha, this is so cute. I love it when the husbands way in, especially on fashion! They have such a different way of thinking of it!
That is super interesting!! I think I did a quote of what Mark said once...I need to do that more often, he says the darndest things about clothes :)
What a hilarious conversation that must have been! I think he's on to something. Seriously, women who wear uggs all the time really irritate me. I have some Emu's that I bought for the 5 degree Chicago days and I hate them aside from the fact that they're the only boots that truly keep my feet warm. But I'm over them and think I'm going to invest next year in some north face boots or something else. Something that's more me! I'm still laughing at his responses :)
haha! what a hilarious post. i loved it. and i agree with him on a lot of boot-related issues. although, those brown boots are so ridiculously cute and look a lot like mine, so i think they're perfect in every way. :) my mister and i have very differing tastes so i usually don't ask his opinion. when i do it usually ends with me giving him a very emphatic "you're completely wrong."
This is so cute :) I love hearing guys perspectives on things especially when it comes to girls fashions! xo
Hilarious. The man knows his boots.
bah! this is so funny! men have such a different perspective on what women should wear than women do!
i LOVE boots! love them! all types! i probably have 10+ pairs and always want MORE! maybe that is what i am doing wrong in the man department? ha! i am sure there is a long list of what i am doing wrong! lol
i used to wear lingerie for my last boyfriend until he told me he thought lingerie looked best on the floor. LOL!
Yup. Cowboy boots.
I'm a total boot girl, but I think your hubs' opinion echos most males' opinions about them. : )
hehe Mr. Branflake is adorable! I agree on his opinion with boots!! I'm a snowboot person lately but I love ankle boots with jeans. =)
Melanie's Randomness
i wonder what he'd think of my giant sorels!
so fun to hear the male perspective!
hahaha this is hilarious!! it is so interesting to hear a male's perspective on boots. i actually agree with what most of he said. i especially love the "uggs = antarctica" commentary. hah!
That was cute! I do love boots, and I agree that they have to suit the occasion and the outfit.
I am an ugg person- and my toes are always cold so I think I qualify under the frigid if you are talking about my toes.
I'm TRYING to be a boot person, but I think I'm just failing at it -- I have such a hard time finding boots I like. But I do agree with your Mr. Branflake: I think simple is best. Now, I just need to find ones that will fit me well.
Your husband is so funny!
But he is right, choosing the right boot can be very hard at times, it'll either complete or ruin the outfit.
And yes, I am a boot person :D
Xoxo
Sarah
I really enjoyed reading his perspective on the matter...he has some great insight from a male point of view :) I'm definitely a boot person and recently invested in a pair of Zara's over-the-knees. Not quite thigh highs, but they're so fun!
SO CUTE!! :) I love that your hubby takes the time to answer your questions :) Mardy would probably be sick of me by the third boot ;)
I am definitely a boot person. I shamelessly busted out my Uggs to weather this super crazy snowstorm here in DC tonight. But otherwise, I love my leather boots, and I just bought my first pair of thigh-highs. Winter = boots for me wherever I can wear them (which often isn't at home...where's it 75 degree weather right now...:).
Hy...
Great male perspective...
The photo in this post was lovely as well:)
Have a great day, and greetings from Norway.
I think Mr. Branflake is right. Love u, Dad
Nice article….and I really enjoyed reading it….I love boots and the boots are really amazing…the casual heel boot really looks fantastic....I have a similar pair of casual boots from Boots Barn…and they really look fantastic…
