An Easy Way to Tone Your Tummy- Without Even Realizing It

image via Tumblr

If you're looking to tone your belly and increase core strength, the next time you're driving tilt the seat back a few inches yet keep your posture upright.  On Tuesday I drove for about two hours and woke up the next morning with sore abs and a tight tummy.  What a pleasant surprise!

Not slouching in general is a great workout because you are fighting that oh-so-powerful force of gravity.  Good posture not only gets you stronger but also makes you look slimmer, more confident, and happier.

How do you keep your core in shape?
Exercise balls?  Dancing?  Pilates? Laughter?

PS... A special Thank You! to Brandi from Not Your Average Ordinary and Pizzelles and Lillian from Unstitched for sending the sweetest Valentine's Day cards in the mail.  I felt so loved and so honored to know these fantastic bloggers.  I might have gotten a little misty eyed but we wont go into that.

I use 5-pound weights and an exercise ball three days a week, for 40 minutes a day. I feel toned and amazing. I always feel icky when I don't workout! :P

Aww, you're welcome! :) I'm so glad the card made it to you safely!

I haven't been doing very well about keeping my core tight...hehe, haven't been working out as much as I'd like, but when I do, I love doing Pilates exercises and Tracy Anderson (of course!)

I'll try anything!! This seems easier I'll give it a whirl! I pull my tummy in and let it out after 5 seconds repeatedly when I'm sitting at my job! I think it works because I hurt sometimes the next day! =)

OOoh good tip! I'm afraid my hip flexors are so strong that they take over in keeping me sitting upright - isn't that just great? lol

Aw, how sweet! My voice teachers have banned me from all forms of exercise where I tighten my tummy all day long (one ballet class literally takes weeks of lessons to undo), but I do some core and strengthening exercises at home, where I can minimize the damage to my singing muscles!

I thought you were going to say coughing- since that is what everyone seems to be doing these days.

Such a great idea - I think I've done it a few times without realizing it since my husband and I share a vehicle.

Love the idea that from today on I can swap the daily sit-ups for a back-leaning driver's seat - I really want to try this! I've been VERY LAZY over winter, but started playing tennis this week...Oooohh, my poor muscles!

Aww, you're welcome, Tiffany! Really, how could I not? And I love this tip! Right now, my trainer helps me tighten my tummy -- last week I was so sore that even a light cough felt like 100 situps.

Ooh girl I am on it! With a 2.5 hour commute I should stop hating the traffic and be thankful it gives me a chance to 'workout' :) My posture is soooo bad, I need an improvement asap!
