I wont call them premonitions but the nature of the dreams are a bit haunting if not filled with warnings.
~Put all important documents in a digital format and send it to an out of town family member we trust.
~Pack our 72 hour kits with personal necessities like extra doses of medicines, contacts, a few pairs of underwear, and an extra pair of sturdy shoes.
~Put small dollar bills in our 72 hour kits in case the banks are not functioning and coins if cell phone towers are down.
~Always have at least a half tank of gas.
FEMA and Ready.gov are great resources for US residents to help you prepare for emergency situations. You never know what emergency you might face and you cannot prepare for every circumstance but I believe in having a plan and being prepared for what you can.
Also, if you want a list of things that should go into a 72 Hour kit, visit these websites or just email me and I will send you a checklist.

Now there is some things to think about- I thought I was good with a flashlight and batteries- thanks for sharing!
Funny how this should pop up. My husband has been talking about being prepared for more than 72 hrs considering he doesn't trust humanity. (His words as he reads this over my shoulder)
It's important to be prepared!
Great reminder. We had a huge wake-up call years ago when we lived on Guam and without warning were hit with an 8.2 earthquake. Everything ended up ok, but we had a horrid time gathering diapers, bottles, etc throughout the shambled house during the aftershocks and trying to get to a safe place all at the same time. Thanks for sharing this.
How crazy that you've been having those dreams! This reminds me, as tornado season is approaching here, that I need to get some things together.
As a child (around 8-years-old) there were constantly fires near our house (we lived on a canyon). I would pack up all of my belongings (rather, my cats, and my toys) and prepare to evacuate each and every time. Luckily, we never actually had to; but it's always good to be prepared! :)
I have tornado dreams all the time. I'm convinced that someday something will happen to me. It's probably a good idea to be prepared...
so smart to have this list!
praying though this won't have to ever happen but with the world we live, you really never know.
I think this is so smart and so important...you just never know.
I've been thinking about this a lot lately too, seeing as I live in san francisco (aka quake city). thanks for posting this, I'm definitely going to begin making a kit for me and my family. it's one of those things that if a disaster does occur, you'll be asking yourself, "why wasn't I more prepared?" and there's really no good reason!
Definitely something to think about. Food I think we would be OK. My mother-in-law's cold cellar has enough preserved stuff to feed an army for a year :)
yeah, i made an earthquake kit as soon as i moved to san francisco. i had about 10 gallons of water, lots of extra food, heavy duty garbage bags & gloves {for cleaning up broken glass}, duct tape and thick plastic {for sealing broken windows}, and medical supplies. we do a lot of backpacking too, so i always felt like i was set with my camping stove, extremely warm sleeping bag, & water purifier pump. in SF i was prepared to just hunker down in my apartment for days until rescue people got to me. here in LA though, it would be much easier to get in our car and drive away, so we made travel bags with toiletry essentials to keep in the car {which also came in handy when i was at an all night shoot}.
but really, the CA coast is so much higher and hillier that i don't think we have to worry about a tsunami too much unless you're right on the beach. and our buildings have been built in really sturdy ways so realistically, in a giant earthquake, the foundation might crack and you'll have to move out while it get's rebuilt, but it won't come crashing down. i hope that can be of some comfort!
This is definitely something to think about, I am so ill-prepared if (god forbid) something should ever happen, but maybe I should have a little "safety bag"!
wow, what a great post! I should totally work on that :)
Good job girl!! These are great preparation ideas and steps. And I've looked at those sites before and they have GREAT information... thanks for letting everyone know about them!
That is so smart, sweetie. I will check out those websites for sure! Kisses
Ps: I’m hosting a cool Loop GIVEAWAY today! Hope you’ll join in:)
Your dreams gave me goosebumps Tiffany! It's a great reminder though! I just hope the end of the world isn't near us...I still want to celebrate my B'day this month~
hugs*
While I pride myself on being hyper-organized, I always stall doing these kinds of things because they scare the bejesus out of me. Thank you for reminding me-I need to get us prepared, especially living in a relatively emergency-prone part of the country!
You and my dad would totally bond over this. He's a military man and is never unprepared, big accident or small.
that is a very good informative post, and im so shocked by the series of horrific events happening in Japan, my heart is with the ones there- it's so sad. and to have all the nuclear problems as well.. horrible.
thanks for sharing this post
xx
Phew, Tiffany... I tend to make fun of the hubs who always keeps a water-cleaning pump in the attic, but who knows, it might become very important. He's also very into survival packs. Hope we will never need them.
I've had evacuation dreams in the past. They're so scary. My biggest struggle is always saving my cats and making sure they're with me. Of all things, they're the most important. But I do need to make sure I have a 72 hour kit and all my important documents in a safe place. I'm definitely following your lead here.
You have really thought ahead, I would never have come up with some of these on my own. Let's hope we never have to put them to use.
So scary that you've had these dreams, and very bizarre that there have already been so many disasters this year.
xoxo
this is on my to-do list for the weekend. survival kit for home, and one for the car. i had to attend a disaster preparedness meeting at work recently, and it was pretty much terrifying. not to mention what we have all been watching from japan. :[ but better to be prepared than not. :[
So smart. I've been thinking of doing a kit for ages, but I can never seem to get around to it... It feels weird...? Like I'm planning for it...? Which is the point, but it's freaky nonetheless.
Note to self: just make the kit!
I've never really thought about it before. I always feel so sheltered in Montreal, but you never know, right.
The legal document copies is a really smart idea.
It's so scary to think about, but obviously it's better to be prepared.
xo
so many people in California have these emergency kits and in florida no one does... amazing isn't it?
Your post is simply amazing! Loves it! I'm now subscribing to your blog on my google reader!

a fashion lawyer by day, fashion police by night...I play at red carpet events, shop all over town, and live life in the fab lane in LA!
I hate that it's only when natural disasters occur that a spotlight is cast on needing to be prepared--albeit, I'm terribly guilty of not thinking ahead about these things until situations arise. I keep about 24 hours worth of emergency supplies in my car--48 hours if i stretch it. I should increase the amount of supplies, which requires clearing out space in my car. (I figure it's not a good idea to store it in my home, where the next big earthquake will only collapse the building).
Thank you for keeping vigilant and reminding all of us to be prepared.
Very smart. I myself often have dreams about aliens coming down to the earth and zapping us all to microscopic pieces...creepy to say least.
