Be Brave!

In the middle of class a few weeks ago a parent came into the studio and said that her daughter had to leave immediately because she had a doctor's appointment that they had forgotten about.  We were about to "ride our magical ponies" and I could tell my student was disappointed.  As she walked out one of her classmates simply yelled out to her "Be brave!"

I thought it was the sweetest thing a six year old could say to another six year old about to leave her magical pony to go to the scary doctor's office.  Touched by this I considered those two words and how they might bolster a faltering ego or give strength to a friend in need.

Be brave.  I know life can be tough but my wish to you all is that you have courage in your heart.

Be Brave.
(This post is dedicated to my dear friend who lost her father Tuesday night and to my step-mother who lost her father Tuesday night also.)

That is so sweet :-) Truly I think that the real wisdom lies in the way young children think.

So sorry that people close to you have lost loved ones. It's hard to see people we care about suffer. Kids are wise. I think sometimes we can learn a lot of lessons from them if we listen. xo

How adorably encouraging! When children say unexpected things like this, it carries more weight as opposed to when an adult says the exact same thing.

I completely agree with Elisa. Kids have these moments when they are so incredibly wise.

oh that's so sweet! and what a heartbreaking time for your friend and stepmom. life is so hard, but whenever i'm tempted to feel overwhelmed by the sadness and fear, i remind myself of how incredibly resilient we all are. i love the concept of courage and bravery. to me it implies that there are very scary things in life and that it's okay to experience fear, but there's this whole other thing we can tap into so we can move forward despite that fear.

sending hugs and prayers to your friend and stepmom, and you today!

We all need an encourager to shout after us, 'Be Brave!' every so often. I love this post.

It is amazing how much wisdom young children have. "Be brave" seems so simple, but goes such a long way.

I'm sorry to hear about the recent losses in your life, Tiffany. :(

sometimes it is hard to be brave, but hearing those words might help!

lately i have been yelling at myself when i have to do something i don't want to -- like make a phone call. i LOATHE making phone calls! anyway, my line is, "SUCK IT UP, SOLDIER!" AND, as usual, your words are much classier! lol

very sorry to hear of the loss in your family. it is so hard to lose those that we love. so hard.

Aw, that was so sweet. I don't remember my dancemates being as nice when I was dancing. It was all gossip and jealousy, competition and greed. Okay, there were good times, but they were so unfortunately shadowed by the bad. There was a lot of drama at my dance studio, so there was never an uneventful year.

I love how the simple wisdom of children is so profound! The babes preach it! Last night I read one of my fave children's stories to my BF... I wanted to share it with him because it's message is so applicable to anyone at any stage of life :)
My condolences to your friend and your step-mother!!!

Aw. Sometimes the most simplest but wisest things I've heard were straight from a little kid's mouth. That was so sweet.
