Outfit Post: Summery But Dressy

This is one of my favorite dresses.
When I first tried it on at H&M in San Francisco years ago, my sister took one look at me and said,
"Hmph.  Very June Cleaver of you."
(She never approved of my fashion sense.)

But I like it and I love how summery it is without being too casual.
We were at a French inspired dinner party that night (Thanks, Stacy!) and snuck out to take a few pictures.
The party was in a beautiful rural area of Sacramento that was surrounded by grape vines and the river.

It was a beautiful night.

How do you dress for summer without being too casual?
I know a nice pair of heels does wonders for a dress.

oh cute!! i love h&m. i do just what you do - dress up a more casual dress with fancy accessories. on the other hand, i think summer calls for many more casual events than in the cooler months, so i don't run into this problem very often. i think your outfit was just perfect for a french dinner party.

You look so beautiful in this dress, Tiffany! As for how to fancy things up, I find heels and the right accessories (especially shiny ones) always help. And a dress like this you really could take anywhere.

The slightly retro vibe of this outfit really suits you! And those wedges are adorable.

Love the dress! It really suits you. Material cut 'on the cross' is always flattering snd hangs well. The checks are very sophisticated, so it is a dress that can go anywhere, depending on accessories - as you say.
For summer, here in Spain, I usually wear a white skirt (various) teamed with a black top (also various). I find them cool and a notch up from casual - again depending on accessories.

You look really cute! As always :) That light is just gorgeous, isn't it? I love that they call it the Golden (or Magic) Hour, because that's just what it is.

Love the dress

Right now I'm going through a summer jeweled sandals phase. I bought an inexpensive pair on eBay that I plan on beading into blingdom.

I LOVE that dress! It is so summery. People don't typically approve of my fashion sense either. I take it as a compliment when someone compares me to some 50s housewife or Jackie O or something. Timeless!

your dress is fab!!!

and your sister has quite a way with words. argh!!!!! chicks can be so brutal.

i put on a cute new dress (well it is cute to ME) to go out to a concert the other night, and my friend kind of gave me the stink eye when she saw what i was wearing. ugh! annoying!

Aww your sense of style is lovely and so elegant! It's very French, and the lighting flatters your skin!
Since I'm only 20, casual summers of Ts and shorts are my thing. When I go beyond that, my first stop is a dress, maybe a cardigan, and strappy leather sandals.

I think June Cleaver makes an excellent fashion plate, and I love this outfit! You look gorgeous, darling!

June Cleaver or not, I think it's darling!
I live in skirts & dresses in the summer, it's so easy to transition from festival flips in daytime to party heels at night. A punchy lip color helps too :)

Hmmm, I think your dress is more Audrey Hepburn on holiday in Europe... quite apropros for a French party! :)

I always feel like dresses are more dressy than skirts so usually if I'm trying to be dressed up a rock a dress.

I think you look stylish and darling!!

For work I wear mostly my handmade skirts with some sort of fun layering top and a pretty tailored blazer. I recently sewed myself a couple extra-long tunics that I have been wearing on casual Fridays with leggings underneath.

And just for fun, I love short shorts and flirty tanks!!

Great dress, I would totally wear it too :)

lots of white... in this terrible Miami summer heat you need something to repel it!

What a pretty dress! two of my favourite summer outfits: a clutch and ballet flats with a dress or wedges with shorts and a white shirt. Comfortable outfits, but so very chic for summer. :) Ada
