I Tried It: $1 Make-Up by E.L.F.

Last night I took a trip to Target for the last minute Europe essentials (socks, candy, random things on sale ) when I came across something amazing and I for sure thought it was a typo.  I saw a whole line of make-up for $1.  But it wasn't a typo, it was a new (to me) line called E.L.F (Eyes, Lips, Face) and I quickly picked up $1 lip glosses, eye shadow brushes, and a travel mirror.

They also have a cool thing that's not online but at Target where you can custom make your own four color eye shadow pallet.  Which is perfect for me who always loves two out of the four shades in manufactured pallets.

They have other things that are more "expensive."
I also got this blush for $3 and I love the color on my skin.
It's definitely coming with me to Europe.
I typically am skeptical with cheap make-up but in my head I thought "well, it's only $1."
I am happy thus far with my purchases and I am especially in love with the Glossy Gloss
(that one is not on the website but at Target).
I applied it right before going out with a friend and it stayed on through
Dark Chocolate Fudge Cold Stone Ice Cream and one hour of dress shopping.
Love!

Have you tried E.L.F.?
What were the results?
What make-up things do you refuse to be cheap about?
ps... I danced with this girl who always had the most amazing eye make-up.
I asked her if she used MAC.
She said: "No.Wet 'n' Wild."
There you go.

I really like E.L.F. products. I actually expected the quality to be very poor, but it's surprisingly not! I've heard their brushes are great too, but I have yet to try those.

One thing I probably won't compromise on is blush. I've tried a few drugstore blushes, but nothing seems to compare to the quality of Mac. Also, the cheap blushes tend to have shimmer, while I prefer a more matte look.

I must have read your mind (or you mine) this morning, as just after I commented on your facebook post, I went to have a look at the E.L.F. website. How strange.

I am definitely going to try out their tinted moisturiser. Hey, at their prices, I could 'try' everything. Let us know how you get on too & any recommendations.

I'm going to try it! The only thing I won't buy for cheap is mascara. I stick to MAC.. which really isn't that expensive. But I don't wear makeup often enough to spend a lot on the rest of it.

Jillian: I totally agree. Luckily this blush has no shimmer and is completely matte.

Gah! I keep hearing about E.L.F.; and for that price, I need to give it a whirl! :)

I have their tinted moisturizer and just picked up this little all over rouge stick called pink lemonade I really like.

That blush shade is gorgeous. I will check it out on my next trip to Target. Sometimes I think we are paying extra just for fancy packaging. xo

Feel the same! Great for fun-colored eyeshadows (they have HUGE palettes for $5 or $10).

As a cosmetic product developer I'll let you in on a little secret if you promise not to tell... :) You can get quality makeup for a relatively inexpensive price. Packaging does come into the retail price but so does manufacturing and labor so most likely it is produced offshore and not in the US. ELF does have some great formulas and the price can't be beat :)

I love E.L.F. I've tried their foundation, cover up and mascara. My only problem is that I run out of the stuff FAST but hey... it's only $1 so you get what you pay for, right?

I'm a HUGE e.l.f. fan. I've been using their makeup for over a year now and I just adore it. Always good prices, and if you join their email list then you constantly get really great coupons.

I'm a fan mostly of their minerals makeup, but I do have a wide range of product from them. It's good quality for an excellent price! Love!

Hmm...interesting. I've never even heard of ELF before. I think the biggest thing I refuse to be cheap about is the stuff that goes directly on my skin (ie: foundation, powder, liquid moisturizer). But since I used to be a makeup artist, I still have a grip-load of shadows and blush from that time, so I'm still slowly using it until I run out :) But it's been serving me well so far!

I've never tried E.L.F. but I do use NYC makeup here and there! The lipstains are $1.49 and they last for hours!

never used it... looks nice but I'm just too settled into my make up... ha!

omgosh E.L.F. is great! you wouldn't think so for $1, but... really. it's pretty great quality for a buck. i came across it one night on a random target run and love it :) i've gone back for all sorts of things!

it's at target now? i remember 3 or 4 years ago my boss sent me their website where you could order anything for $1 with free shipping. i stocked up on a bunch of stuff thinking the same thing you did - "well, it's only a dollar..." i liked a couple things, but not all the colors worked for me {it's hard ordering colors online, you know?}. i've found that it's worth it for me to pay more money for high quality makeup that goes all over my skin {blush, powder, etc.}, but for the fun stuff like lip gloss and eye shadow, i'm good with basic target finds. the customizable eye shadow sounds awesome! i never like the combos that are premade. thanks for sharing!

I use a pressed powder by ELF and I love it more than the pricey ones!

I haven't seen these yet, but I'd absolutely give them a try! Since makeup dries up or fills with bacteria so quickly, I'm hard pressed to spend a lot on it, unless it's a great cream blush or divine lip color!

And that blush you picked up? I can imagine how amazing it must look on you!

I have definitely thought about trying it. With your glowing recommendation, I'll have to now!

You can also check out their website, maybe they'll have more you like?

I've heard of e.l.f. for years but never actually tried it for fear of it being bad, but I stand corrected! I love it when cheaper makeup and beauty items rock!! That's something I love about Avon... totally affordable and gives pricier brands a run for their money. Let me know if you're ever curious about Avon ;)

Actually, I like E.L.F.'s bronzer and lipglosses, but their eyeshadows fell a little flat for me. :( I have a couple palettes that I bought because of their price, but I find I only use them for highlight or corner colors because the pigmentation isn't great. Wet n' Wild has some amazing eyeshadows that have been getting love all over the beauty blog world! :) I also have their studio eyelash curler and I lvoe it!

I've tried it and haven't had any complaints!

I got Elf makeup brushes awhile ago that I still use and love! I couldn't believe how cheap they were. This is a good reminder that I need to try their makeup too :)

I'm so excited to have found your blog and follow your trip to Europe! I lived in France twice, and just got back from another visit, but I haven't done the UK yet!

You had perfect timing with this post! I was just lamenting the cost of even "inexpensive" make-up yesterday when I ran out of mascara and foundation at the same time and was too cheap to buy both at once. I'll have to try e.l.f.

Mighty Burns said...

this is rocking my make up world. I wish more companies has a cheap little sample like size you could buy.. I hate to buy a giant blush or liner and then hate it and never use it again.. waste!

I love E.L.F. and have bought from the for quite some time! I am really loving their tinted moisturizer right now!

I love the idea of choosing your own color palette for the eye shadow; going to check that out!

I've heard about elf for years because they're one of the first make-up companies I heard about that didn't test on animals. At the time, they were only available online or in specific areas so I never got a chance to try them. I'm so happy to hear that they're becoming more widely available. I hope your time in London is going great so far!
