What's Your Birthday Food?

My mom once told me that while she was pregnant with me she felt her first contraction while eating fish.
It wasn't until a few months ago that she told me that she was actually eating fish and chips.
 That explains so much!

I love all fried food but I have never ordered fish and chips from a restaurant.
I always have thought they were too decadent and should be saved for a special occasion.
I think I knew subconsciously that fish and chips were to be eaten on my birthday.
I mean, I obviously wanted them when my mom was eating them on July 17, 198-.

On my way to my birthday fish and chips.
And the skirt?Totally made by my mother.

So yesterday while in London, I ordered my first batch of fish and chips.
That seemed like the most appropriate occasion.
I'm now calling fish and chips my birthday food.

Do you have a birthday food?
ps... thank you for all the birthday wishes on Facebook. I am quite humbled.

Hope you had a nice birthday. Enjoy the offerings of London, too.
I lived in London for several years and always loved to treat myself to Fish & Chips;-)

So what did you think Birthday Girl?! I want all of the yummy details. I'm sure Sean will want to have a long conversation about your experience. I've only had American fish and chips, and I hear they don't even come close. You look lovely by the way
:)

that reminds me... me and my fiancé (I love that word:) ) made a habit of going to McDonald's to have chicken nuggets and french fries once a year :) We prefer home-made food to ready-made food, but also agree that treats are important :)

p.s. Happy B-day :))

I love your birthday food story and wish you a Happy Birthday!

Probably, I would choose a delicious salad and prawns to follow if I was eating out, but I might choose to stay at home and have my husband's seafood paella, which is yummy.

I don't have a birthday food per se; but during her pregnancy with me, my mom ate loads of Chinese food - specifically Egg Drop Soup. Oddly enough, I am allergic to eggs. :P

I just made fish and chips the other night! It's very popular in Australia too. I grew up with it, so I took it for granted - we would have it on the beach for dinner on weekends, but I never realized how good it was until I moved to the US where it isn't a popular meal.

Happy Birthday!

Hmmmm.... I don't know about my birthday food, but I do have an anniversary food. For our first wedding anniversary, Brian took me to New Orleans, and we went to this charming French restaurant in a lovely old restored house and I ordered moules frites (mussels and fries). Then the following year, we went to a bed and breakfast and restaurant and I ordered muscles and fries again. I didn't even remember that this is what I ordered the last time until Brian reminded me. So this October will be a third year, so I am planning to make muscles an anniversary tradition.

it was your birthday?! i hope it was a fantastic one, full of adventures and memories, even though you are far from your loved ones. i love the idea of birthday food. i don't have any particular kind, but i definitely give myself the free pass to eat whatever i want no matter what it is. that has often included pineapple pizza or yellow curry from my favorite thai place in san francisco. mmm... :) i hope you're having an amazing week in the UK!

Happy Birthday for yesterday.

You know, traditionally in England we would have Fish and Chips every Friday night!

Remember, yummy food should be weekly fun not just birthday fun. ;-)

Hope you enjoyed it, and definitely try different places, because the quality really varies.

My birthday food? Probably Thai food, or Chinese Aromatic Duck. Yum.

Nope, I don't have a birthday food. My only requirement for what to eat on my birthday is that it be really GOOD :) Whatever that means!

Happy belated birthday...hope it was everything you hoped for and more ;)

My birthday food always used to be beef rice-a-roni with a side of broccoli. Recently I changed it to my mom's tacos, but I am sure I will go back to my rice-a-roni phase in a couple years. I hope the fish and chips were everything you wanted them to be and more, and I hope you put vinegar on them, it's the only way... :)

Oh, I'm so glad you got to try some good fish and chips! My birthday food is always the poppyseed cake I make. As for other foods that day, it's usually whatever else I'm in the mood for.
