The Novel I Am Writing...

I found this quotation on Terresa's blog, The Chocolate Chip Waffle. She is an extraordinary poet and I seek her when I need to find the words I do not have myself.

"The novel I am constantly writing is always the same one, and it might be described as a variously sliced-up or torn-apart book of myself."
-Robert Walser

Interpret this as you may, but I found great solace in this quotation.
I think sometimes I forget that life is an ongoing project with an end result.
I may not know what that end result is but I know it's there.
And better yet, everything I do is part of the process of achieving that end result.
Nothing is wasted.

How is your novel coming?

I remember reading this quote on Terresa's blog and feeling just as you; this is exactly how the living of it is. Strips of fleshly soul sewing themselves unhurriedly, while we are still alive. Isn't it wonderful being friends with the red sun-headed cartographer of words?!

I am totally turning this quote into a print, I love it!

Wow--just, yes, wow. I'm saving that quote and remembering one. It suits my take on literature in the academic sense as well as my take on life, a narrative, a great big story.

In my first college course in English, my professor frequently interspersed his lectures by saying literature is the stuff of life. I've always loved that idea, but I love that this takes it the other direction. The stuff of life is what writes stories, what creates novels, even those that are never written.

Sometimes it's hard not knowing the end result I think. Must learn to just trust it will all work out for the best I guess. xo

I've had a particularly tough morning. I needed to read that. :] It's kind of easy to forget that we are living for a reason.

this completely gave me the chills. No time is wasted- every moment is a chance or a stepping stone to go into the direction of your choice. Every circumstance prepares us for the next thing. love it.

I very much like the idea of being a work in progress. I firmly believe that we experience things for a reason and they will prepare us for what we will encounter. I love thinking about what life has in store and how we just aren't yet prepared for it, but we soon will be.
You are always inspiring me!

What a great thought to chew on! Lately, I've been more and more excited about "my novel." Not necessarily because the circumstances are always ideal, but like you said, "I may not know what the end result is but I know it's there."

This is so true! Good luck on the gathering of ideas! Writing a novel is kind of hard, but sometimes it just comes to you:)!

Does blogging count as part of our ever evolving novel, too?

hmmm. very interesting. i have realized that one of the hardest things for me to deal with in life is the UNCERTAINTY of it all. WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN!?!?!? we never know how anything will turn out. but whaddya gonna do -- such is life. maybe it is best to think about it as an adventure that is constantly unfolding.

hmm I really liked this too. i find that a lot of the time the voice tlaking in my head is more or less narrating whats going on.. more like a movie or novel then a rattling of thoughts. soooo well. its going well! lol

that is a gorgeous mixed-media painting! although i don't really think there is an end point. i guess i should ask what you mean by "end point" before i disagree {we all have different definitions right?}. but i see life as being cyclical, with no real end point. perhaps death and the "end of life" phase could be the end point? but then again, we really don't know if anything happens beyond that either. i hope we get to discuss topics like this in person next month. hint hint ;)
