Train Rides

One of the things I couldn't wait to do in the UK was ride on a train.
I had heard it was the best way to see the countryside and I have to say that going from London to the Scottish Highlands did not disappoint.
True story: At one of our stops I woke up in the wee hours of the morning and saw a bunny rabbit hopping casually in a stream before eating some foliage. It was like a dream

I felt a little silly taking so many pictures at 5 am but I just couldn't stop.
Seeing the sun rise over the Highland mountains is almost life changing.

Here I tried to capture the anticipation of seeing what was just around the river bend.
We often went from total seclusion to glorious scenery.

When you go to the Highlands
(which you will all do and tell me all about it)
spend a few extra pounds and take the train.
You will never forget it.

Have ever had any memorable train rides?

The last time I was on a train was when I was pretty young. My dad used to take one to work every day when we lived in Illinois and a few times he took me to work with him.

I'm so sad that I've never even been on a train! I love these photos, especially the blurry ones.

Aww...that DOES sound like a dream! There's something so romantic about train rides through Europe. Unfortunately, I don't have a good memory of a train ride (it was an overnight sleeper, and our money got stolen while we slept!)...but that doesn't mean I've given up! :) I'll still go on train rides...I just don't do the overnight thing again :)

I couldn't agree more. We did the same thing. Took a train from London to Edinburgh and loved it. Not to sound dorky, but it totally felt like we were in the hogwarts express. Very magical.

How gorgeous!!! I've had a few memorable train rides. I took the Eurostar from London to Paris years ago and riding through the French countryside was breathtaking.

And I also took a train from Milan to Florence and that was one of the most gorgeous rides I've ever taken. Sunflowers as far as the eye could see! :)

I think the train rides in England are some of the best I've ever taken. Trains in India were life changing, but England is still my favorite!

So pretty! I love that you got to see the bunny AND the sunset! I've been on a train ride from one end of Colorado to another and rode in an open car through the mountains. That was pretty darn memorable!

i wouldn't mind hopping on a train right now! a train that would take me ANYWHERE but at work! lol! and far far away from the obama traffic nightmare that awaits me on my way home!

but i am getting off topic!

i haven't been on a (moving?) train ever, i don't think, or maybe once as a kid. but it would be fun. very fun. and a perfect opportunity for photos! whee!

Tiffany, those photos are amazing! I've only been on a train once, and it was years ago! These photos make me want to travel across the country by train. :)

most of my train ride experiences have been memorable. it's such a fabulous way to see the world, plus you get to chat with interesting people and still travel in a timely manner. the only exception to this was our overnight train ride in thailand. we booked a first class sleeper car, but we quickly realized "first class" did not translate the same into english. it was a roach-infested, dirty, grimy, terrifying experience, quite possibly the worst experience of my entire life. from now on it's the thing that makes all other horrible experiences seem bearable {getting mugged on the street? well, at least it's no train ride in thailand.}. it was a bonding experience with dannon to say the least. :)

Aww don't feel guilty about taking too many photographs! Your train ride was absolutely gorgeous. My most memorable train ride was the one I took in Rome to Florence to meet my soulmate <3

... i forgot to add that after i got stuck in the door, my austrian friend who i was traveling with literally had to take his foot up to my backpack and shove me through the door.

aka, everyone look! a stupid american who can't even get on and off a train without making a fool of herself! :)

Train rides are the best. I will never forget my train ride from France to Germany...drunk teenagers in Burger King crowns with a boombox playing everything from the theme from Chariots of Fire to Madonna. Need I say more!

I so agree. Just had a friend over who enjoyed riding the train through the English countryside immensely. Such beautiful pictures of the highlands!

I do remember the train from Dublin to Galway was stunning. I had trouble pulling my eyes off the landscape. And that bunny does sound like a dream.
