Ladies in gentlemen, I'm in a little trouble by Mr. Branflake.
What did I do?
It's more of a question of what I didn't do.
I mean, I don't do a lot of things I should; like put away my shoes or eat breakfast,
but this one has really put him in a tizzy and I need your help to get me out of it.
I promised him that I would have a slide show done of all my Scotland/England pictures.
It was supposed to be done by September. He set a new deadline to November 1st
and I honestly haven't even started.
He knows this and still loves me (I think) but I really really have no clue where to begin.
I mean, I was obsessed with everything there so I have pictures of basically everything I saw.
Believe me when I say that all the photos I've posted so far are just a tip of the gigantic iceberg.
I was there for a month;
I took photos of basically everything I ate, every monument I saw, and every man in a kilt.

| No, he's not in a kilt but that would be funny if he were! |
So, to all my blogger friends who I know are big time travelers and photo takers:
Have you ever done a slide show for your friends and family?
If so, what software/format/organizational things did you use?
Do you include the artistic photos are just the ones you think showcases your trip the best?
Please help a highly disorganized woman out!
My goal is to get this done by Thanksgiving to show my family so I have exactly one week .
Eek!

I've used PowerPoint to create slideshows in the past - but those were mainly for school projects.
I think that you need to select pictures to include based on how well they reflect who you are, and what thrilled you the most during your time abroad. Though you may love all of them, I'm sure there are many that stand out more than others. Perhaps even select the photographs that you can tie into a story regarding your trip. :)
Use Picasa! You can set up an album, put it all in order, and then turn it into a slide show...I've used it a few times. If you want to put it on a disc or dvd, I'm not sure how, but I think you can post them to a web album for sure.
I don't do a slideshow, but I do pick my top ~200 photos and create photobooks. I end up using a combination of 'story-telling' and artsy shots, woven together to tell a story and really illustrate where I was. It's not so bad, just try to limit yourself to 200 :)
I would upload onto a site like Katie suggested, anywhere you can easily hit "Play as Slideshow" so all you have to do is upload & choose the images. My boyfriend actually created a slideshow video using Windows Media Player - but no idea how he did it.
As for the images, I would definitely put in a mix of artistic ones as well as the ones that demonstrate literally about your trip :)
good luck on this! i know pictures can be overwhelming. wish i could be of more help! i do love those picture books you can order from online. might be a fun option. :)
I would probably just use Picasa to do it.
Aw, I totally get you, Tiffany! I take thousands upon thousands of photos when I travel, and it is so overwhelming that I don't even want to start organizing (I've been joking that if it weren't for my blog, I would never edit/organize them!). But my advice (since I didn't always blog about my travels at one point in my life)....JUST DO IT. If you don't do it now, you will never get to it. Just sit down, turn on some fun music (or pop in some TV on DVD for a marathon) and just do it. Put all the photos in a folder and slowly edit and weed and...well, do it! :) And remember how fun it will be to tell all your stories and share your experiences with your loved ones!
Some of suggested powerpoint. What about Prezi? It may take more time to do, but could be a more interesting approach, and you could send the link to people to view it, so it doesn't take up "file" space.
You organize it by date or by theme, such as food, scenery, etc.
Maybe even have the Mr. help you, since he wants to see it so bad!!! :)
PS, I met Boyfriend's parents. They told him that I was lovely and delightful. I'm doing to take that as a compliment ;)
i used to do slide shows with actual slides and a projector {remember those days?}, but when digital cameras came out i did the ole manual "slide show" where i played music on my boombox {and remember those days?} and manually flipped through the main photo viewer on my giant pc computer. for our wedding/honeymoon slideshow though, i finally got to use the fancy stuff... and by that i mean, the basic imovie maker that came with my macbook. it was pretty easy to set up all the photos and upload whatever music i had on my computer. when you're done you can burn the slideshow to a dvd and play it on your tv. although, there are also hookups these days to just play the slideshow on your mac and watch it on your tv. honestly, though, i don't think family and friends care how fancy it is. they just want to see your photos, so worst case scenario you just create a separate photo folder with the ones you want to show and flip through them manually. as for which ones i'd show - i like to divide my trip up chronologically, that way my friends get to take the same trip i did. i pick out a few of my personal favorites {including the artsy ones}, plus a few that might showcase things that are unique to that country {in case your viewers have never been}.
What amazing advice-I love how many smart women can come to our aid!
hi!! ok so first i go through and get rid of ALL unnecessary ones. like you don't need 10 pics of the same thing, you just don't. then i put them in a slide show of the order it happened! good luck :) and share it with us!
I've never done a slideshow...I can't even keep the closet organized. Sigh. I'm of no use in this situation. Argh
piece of cake. open a flickr account (if you don't have one). upload all the good shots. up upload all the shots, and then edit out the not-so-good ones. and then make a slideshow. flickr is pretty easy to use. let me know if you need help! :)
great pictures! i recomment imovie if you have a mac - you can set the pictures to music.

If you have a Mac, my husband used iMovie to create a slideshow for our wedding. It is easy and awesome!

This probably won't help you at all, but after the fiance and I got back from 5 months in SE Asia, we had at least 6,000 pics. There was no way I was going to go through ALL of them and try to organize them. Instead, we sat down with fam and started from pic 1. It lasted several hours, but we got through most of them before they all decided they had seen enough :)
I find it terribly hard to organize photos from trips into any kind of meaningful order. I'm with you...just the thought of diving into the task is overwhelming enough to make me avoid it. I agree on all the suggestions, flickr, picasa... Let us see what you end up with!
I used smugphoto, which i paid for though. You can also upload videos, large formats and unlimited uploads, but im also used google's picassa web albums which is free and you can try flickr.
i do the movies on iMovie. super simple! you can make it as easy or as difficult as you want. :) drag a song in the background... and viola!
ps. i totally have, basically, the exact same picture from the tate. those red paintings are so amazing, aren't they? you are a woman of fine taste! xo
