Last year my friends and I celebrated Channukah by eating ridiculous amounts of food that included latkes, potato pizza, and spin the dreidl with chocolate gilt. This year none of our Jewish friends were available but a group of us decided to just get together and eat anyway.
The menu included:
~A delicious baked pasta dish with proscuitto, spinach, and smoked mozzarella a la Giada DeLaurentis.
~Sweet potato fries with salt, pepper, and evoo.
~Homemade rolls with butter and seedless raspberry jam for spreading.
~Cooked beet salad with goat cheese (it was delicious!!!!)
~Tossed green salad with blue cheese, foccacia croutons, dried cherries, and apples.
I love impromptu dinner parties.
Admittedly, they happen every weekend with my group of friends (we are not planners!) so I really can't call them a surprise. We all just bring a dish or two and it's always a feast.
But even though these get togethers are low key they tend to be the most fun.
Seriously, if you're in Sacramento on a Sunday night come on over.
There's usually a group of us eating delicious food and a dessert made by my awesome friend, Steph.
Do you like impromptu dinners or are you a planner?
Sometimes I think planning the dinners stress me out more.

I love impromptu dinner parties too. I think a buffet style, sit wherever is just so casual and relaxing. Love that. Leave the formality for the stuffy peeps. I'm totally trying Giada's recipe. It sounds amazing. Gonna right down the ingredients because I have to hit the market later. xo
I'm literally salivating! I know where to go on Sunday if I was ever in Sacramento...you said it now you can't take it back!!! haha!

I'm more of a planner myself; however, I find that impromptu dinner parties are far more fun as they are so full of surprises! :)
Mmm that food looks delicious! I think I'm more of a planner, but you're right it is more stressful! lol
Last nite I was thinking that you need to bring back your dinner party series!
I'm a planner although I can still appreciate impromptu parties!
i like them both... there is something really fun about being creative at the last minute
wow, this looks great! but please invite me the next time, sweets! ;)
Wishing all the best for your New Year 2012! hope to stay in touch! x

Well let me say 'YUUUUM' first! And second, my friends and I actually did a Channukah dinner for the first time this year (did have one jewish friend present)- a lovely idea hehe.
Makes me want to get into the kitchen now. Wow. Yummy!
I like feeding anyone I can get my hands on--planned or not!
I might fly to Sacramento just to attend one of these parties. You know I'll bring something delicious with me.
I'm usually a planner but that's because most dinner parties I end up cooking for entirely by myself, which means I need to think about what I'm making long enough ahead that I can grocery shop.
I think I'll need to head over to Sacramento some Sunday night, just to have food like this! :)
I would SO come over... this looks delicious. Very much impromptu, me, I try to plan, but then it normally becomes improvisation :)
It all looks so wonderful! I learned this winter that I love impromtu dinner parties. I went to three lately, each was a great success.
Merry belated Christmas :)
i'm the party-goer, never the organiser ;) YUMMY FOOD!
I am definitely a planner. It looks like you do well with spur of the moment. It all looks so good.
