Brave: Disney's Newest Princess

Disney is coming out with a new Pixar movie and I am so giddy I think my head and heart is about to explode.  It's set in Scotland (yes, SCOTLAND! My favorite country in the world!) and it tells the story about the amazingly brave princess, Merida.
Here's the synopsis from IMDB:

Determined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.

I love that the newest princess is fierce, strong, and has crazy hair.
And the fact that she's Scottish? Even better!
Don't tell me that you all aren't wondering if there's a Scottish Prince in a kilt somewhere in this movie.
I think his voice is actually Kevin McKidd (you know, Grey's Anatomy...).
Kevin McKidd is basically Jamie Fraser.
You book nerds probably know who I am talking about.

How do you feel about Disney Princesses?
Are you already in love with this one as much as I am?
And I love that Disney is focusing on her bravery, not her looks.

I can't wait! Not only are Pixar movies my favorites of all time (seriously, I rewatch them every weekend it seems..), but to have a brave female lead? WHO CAN RESIST?

I am excited for this! I recently discovered that I am from an illegitimate line of King James IV, King of Scotland. So I have been even more into Scotland now that I know I have some family roots there. Plus I love any girl that kicks A.

I'm thrilled for this new princess but my favorite Disney princess will always be Belle, for her smarts, curitosity, and being able to see beauty in everything. I'll def be seeing this soon :)

ugh, i hate disney as a company and have always hated the way people are portrayed in the old disney cartoons. but pixar is a different story. pixar has always been focused on friendship rather than romance, and portrays characters as complex beings just like in real life. i love the premise of this new princess and i hope this is indicative of many more positive changes now that disney and pixar are joint companies. {plus, i have a ton of friends who work at pixar so i'm pretty proud of the work they do.}

Yes! Finally! This is my kind of princess. I'm more the sassy, adventurous, take care of biz type than a wait-around-for-the-pring-to-save-me type... can't wait!!

I haven't loved all the princesses in the past, but I'm glad Disney is making more that young girls can relate to and be inspired by. And I'm definitely looking forward to this movie.

As you said, there's probably a Prince Charming in there somewhere. So in the end, even if Disney is supposedly not focusing on her looks, the lesson will still be that she needs a man to complete her.

Really, how is this going to be any different from Beauty & the Beast (a focus on Beauty's smarts) or Mulan (a focus on her fighting). They all still need a prince...
