Have you heard of ABC Family's new series, Bunheads?
It's about a Vegas showgirl who marries a man, moves to his small hometown,
and becomes a teacher at her mother-in-law's ballet studio.

I'll be honest, I can sense the obvious themes of the show
(too strict mother-in-law, uptight ballet students and their parents, and blah blah blah) but I am anxious to see a few things:
1. Amy Sherman-Palladino, of Gilmore Girls, is the executive producer and I love love love Gilmore Girls.
2. How television portrays ballet dancer fashion.
Gilmore Girls got Stella McCartney to style Lorelei and Rory,
so I'm excited to see the styling of the Bunheads, dancers and non dancers.
3. From the looks of this photo, the ballerinas in the show look healthy and strong.
I'm curious to see what stereotypes they play into and the barriers they break.
4. The story takes place in a sleepy, coastal town (aka, my dream place to live).
I adored Stars Hollow and I cannot wait to see what this new one looks like.
Bunheads airs June 11th on ABC Family.

I am so not a tv person right now... I just had to say that the title made me laugh out loud.
I am excited for this show! There is also a new ballet show on Fox this summer.
Ha! We don't have TV, but I'll be fishing hulu or other internet options for this one. I saw the trailer for it while at the mall with kids - made me curious. I think I just will!

I think I will check it out! I love dancing shows (I just watched the first season of Dance Academy via Netflix).. and I loved Gilmore Girls!! ...and ..I spent a third of my life dreaming of becoming a dancer. Unfortunately I just wasn't that good! lol

sounds like a great reality series- Never heard of it and probably won't watch it- (we don't' have cable)
I'll probably check it out, as I seem to watch ANYTHING about ballet, even if it's awful. There's another one coming out on the CW - 'Breaking Point' - which I believe, is a reality show about a ballet company. The commercials show some really great dancing. Then they cut to the title with someone up on pointe - with sickled feet! It makes me cringe.
Not sure I would watch, reminds me too much of the ABCFamily shows.
Loved Gilmore Girls and love ballet so I will probably be watching. Also, I think I spot Kelly Bishop there so that makes it even better!

All of a sudden there are so many ballet-themed shows! You're so right about how healthy and strong these ballerinas look, and frankly it's a relief, although an eating disorder storyline seems hard to escape with such a body-centric topic like ballet. I am a HUGE Gilmore Girls fan, and I can't wait to watch!

I just saw the trailer for this last night. Looks interesting!
I think that you will all be pleasantly surprised with this series! It’s got an awesome cast – Sutton Foster AND Kelly Bishop, and it has just the right amount of drama mixed with dance and fun! I know that I cannot wait for the summer premiere, which is coming up June 11! The title is a ballet reference, since dancers wear their hair up in a bun, but hopefully Hollie you will also find some humor in the series itself! Have you all gotten to see the sneak peeks yet?
I HAVE to watch because I LOVE Amy Sherman-Palladino. She did such an amazing jobs with Gilmore Girls so it's my hope that this show will follow along those lines.
P.S. I thought I you when I started seeing commercials for this =-)

gilmore girls is my all time favourite tv show...i've been waiting for PAlladino to follow it up...all though i hope they dont fall into the old ballet cliches and keep it fresh!
Interesting! I never watched Gilmore Girls, but I'm always interested in anything ballet... have to say I'm going to approach with skepticism; too many times 'Hollywood' casts barely-trained dancers as the young 'phenom' types and its absolutely laughable (e.g. Julia Stiles in 'Save the Last Dance'... if that was Julliard quality dancing, I'll eat my pointe shoe!)

I'll have to find somewhere I can watch in online... sometimes it sucks living in australia! I'm watching dance moms online at the moment and used to watch dance academy. the dance shows are popping up everywhere at the moment, it's wonderful! :)

Yes I will be watching!! I love love love Gilmore Girls! I borrowed the whole series from a girlfriend when my daughter was first born since it was winter time and we hardly went anywhere. For two months I sat and watched that show every day. I would love to find a picturesque small town like stars hollow to live in someday. What a dream that would be!

Oh, I miss Gilmore Girls! I'm happy to see more from Amy Sherman-Palladino--I'll have to watch! I pay almost no little attention to what's new on TV and had no idea this show was coming.
I hadn't heard of this! I tried to watch the preview on the ABC website but it's only available for viewing in the USA. I'll have to keep an eye out and wait for it to come out on DVD! But just from your description, I'm sure I'll be watching :)

Just to clear up any confusion, it’s on ABC Family and not ABC, I would hate for you to miss it! I know you are aware of Amy Sherman-Palladino and Kelly Bishop, but do you all know of Sutton Foster?
