I'm not telling you what to do if you have word verifications set up on your comments box, but you have to admit these are a little ridiculous. So, if you feel so inclined, bloggers everywhere would love it if you turned them off. Again, do whatever you want (I hate it when people tell me what to do) but, for the love, just see what I've been subjected to lately.
I'm not sure how to type in "handicapped sign." For real, I'm not.

I personally like this one...

| Did I miss something the day they taught how not to be a robot? Like how to type in door handles? I did skip a lot of school my senior year... |
So, if I've convinced you...
How to turn off word verification:
Go to 'settings.'
Click on 'posts and comments.'
Click on 'word verification.'
Choose 'no.'
Bam. Done.

oh my gosh - those are ridiculous ones! Often I have to make a dozen attempts before it accepts - so frustrating sometimes!
Hahahah! It finally happened to me too.
I can't bear it, I rarely comment on blogs who have it, one time it took me 8 tries.
I couldn't agree more!
And Blogger is pretty good at automatically catching and not publishing the spam anonymous comments anyway.
xo
I've gotten one with a picture of a lamp post. Can't find that button anywhere on my keyboard. Ha!

OMG thanks for this post Tiffany! I'm glad I'm not the only one frustrated by this. Sometimes I spend more time trying to type in the right combo than actually leaving a comment.

Handicapped sign?!?!?!? Yeah these are getting ridicolous!! I'll turn mine off!! =)

I am so with you on that! It usually takes me like 2 or 3 times before I get it right. Kisses, sweetie.
Ps: Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving:)
Haha, love it, handicapped sign! LOL
I hate these and they are the reason why I sometimes give up on trying to comment on some blogs.
Happy Monday xxx
If I don't get it on the first try, I give up!
Thank you for this. Just, thank you.
Seriously. These are the WORST.
Am I the only one who got crazy spam last week? I have a feeling it might have been a response to the madness–but yeah, wheelchair is sort of an awkward symbol. Maybe: c& ?
Thank you for this! I would love for everyone to turn this off. Blogger seems pretty good at catching spam comments, at least for me anyway.
AGREE!!! - i posted about this AWHILE back - u know how annoying it is to try and type and retype and then retype again and again - and then after so many you just give up and damn it all to hell .... is "anonymous" even around anymore? - i think NOT!
i seriously almost did a post exactly like this!!! i HATE IT!!! it has taken me like 3 times for some of these because they are not even readable! omg.
haha last march i went on a rant ;) http://www.avillagetown.com/search?q=word+verification
ps it would be funny if you put word verification on this post
Snort. I like Krystal's comment above m.e
I thought I was the only one who has to type the word in over and over and over. Ugg it's so very frustrating!
Hahaha that's so funny! And so ridiculous! xxx

It makes me want to pluck out my eyeball and throw it at the blogger. I hate it!
Amen, amen!
The reason why the word verifications are so ridiculous is that they are created by companies to test if we can read them - making us bloggers cheap (i.e. free) testing personal. Another reason to turn WV off! (Plus,it's so easy to just from time to time tick all the spam in one's spam inbox and delete it)
I recently turned my word verification.. back on!!! I know! I HATE word verification, however I was getting more spammy comments than comments from actual readers. It was frustrating. So I figured I could turn it on for a bit.. Then try to go word verification free again.
I guess you don't know how these work?
It's something called "reCAPTCHA". The computer-generated nonsense (black and white text) is the actual word verification. The photo is not! You could just not input anything for the photo and it shouldn't matter!
BUT. Do you know what the photo part does? It's a crowd-sourced way to identify words in scanned books that the computers cannot interpret. Or, in these cases, a way to identify words in signage from Google Streetview that the computers cannot interpret. If enough people enter the same words for the photo, then Google can know with a certain level of certainty what it actually says without having to hire people to read it. The problem here is that some algorithm is identifying text where there actually isn't any. But since there's no "right" answer for these photos, it matters little.
So. You don't have to guess anything for the photos (especially the door knobs and handicapped signs), but if you can it will be helping Google to identify text that their computer algorithms otherwise cannot.
It's really not worth getting overly worked up about.
I hate them!!!! Because of them I leave much less message these days... Ugh!!!!
i hate word verification. it is stupid. it is EXTREMELY difficult to read. it is aggravating. but without it some bloggers get hundreds of spam comments a day. there REALLY SHOULD BE A BETTER WAY.
Can I get an amen?!
LOVE THIS! i hate word verification thingys esp when you have NO idea what the what it says! xoxo jillian:: cornflake dreams
